Patriots Suffer First Setback in 2025 to Hillcats

#14 Rogers State used an early goal and kept the Patriots off balance on offense to take the win.

CLAREMORE, OKLAHOMA – UT Tyler men's soccer slips to 2-1-1 on the year after falling to #14 Rogers State 1-0 on Wednesday night in non-conference play.

The Hillcats got on the board early, scoring a goal just 12 minutes into the contest as they took a 1-0 lead. That offensive run would continue as they launched two more shots on goal, but keeper Niclas Becker would make the saves and keep them out of the net.

UT Tyler offensively would put up just two shots in the first half of play, both of which were blocked before getting to the net.

There would be another press late in the half as the Hillcats took a shot that went off the crossbar and another that got blocked, but the Patriots again kept them out of the netting and the deficit to just one.

The Patriots recorded three shots over the first 20 minutes of the second half, including their first shot on goal of the match by Javi Gonzalez, but that shot was stopped by the Rogers State defense as they made the huge save to keep their advantage.

Rogers State would keep their pressure on, recording four more shots on goal themselves in the second half, but Becker again came up big, holding off the Hillcats as the Patriots stayed within one.

The Patriots put on late pressure down the stretch to try and tie the contest, but ultimately could not come up with the equalizer and would fall 1-0.

Niclas Becker made seven saves on the night in net. Six different Patriots recorded a shot, with Gonzalez recording the only shot on goal.

UT Tyler will be back in action on Saturday afternoon as they take on Harding on the road in Searcy, Arkansas. That match will begin at 1 p.m.
