Patriots Drop Road Match at No. 12 Texas Woman's

DENTON, Texas – UT Tyler battled No. 12 Texas Woman's through a scoreless first half but fell 2-0 in Lone Star Conference action on Saturday evening.

The Patriots nearly took the lead in the opening minutes of the game when Ella Anderson earned a penalty chance after a foul in the penalty box. However, the Patriots leading scorer was turned away by the Pioneer goalkeeper. That would be one of only two shots UT Tyler would get in the first half.

The match stayed scoreless through halftime as Robbi Curry came up with a key penalty-kick save early in the second half.

Texas Woman's would break through less than a minute later though as a cross pitch pass bounced off a Patriot defender in the box, giving the Pioneers a perfect chance to score. And they would take advantage of the opportunity, scoring the first goal of the game in the 48th minute.

The Pioneers would add an insurance goal on another penalty kick in the 73rd minute to take game the 2-0.

Curry finished the night with eight saves, including seven in the second half. The dominant UT Tyler attack was held at bay as the Patriots were outshot 17-5 overall and 10-2 on shots on goal. Anderson led the Patriots attack with 3 shots overall while Danica Anaya and Kayden Raney each added a shot for UT Tyler.

UT Tyler is now to 5-3-1 overall and 4-2-0 in Lone Star Conference play. They'll return to the pitch Wednesday Oct. 7th when they hit the road to take on Oklahoma Christian.
