Patriots Complete Sweep Over Dustdevils with 11-2 Win

UT Tyler scores in all but two innings and rolls for its third straight double-digit run total in the series sweep of Texas A&M International.

TYLER, TEXAS – UT Tyler baseball improved to 9-1 on the season after completing a series sweep of Texas A&M International with an 11-2 win Monday afternoon. The Patriots pounded out 11 hits and outscored the Dustdevils 46-16 across the series, scoring 11 or more runs in each of the final three games. In the finale, UT Tyler scored in all but two innings to seal their second sweep of the year.

The Patriots struck first after holding International scoreless in the opening frame. An error, a Drew Schmidt single, and two wild pitches helped UT Tyler push across the game's first run in the bottom of the first. The offense added four more runs in the second on three hits. With the bases loaded, Luke Smith singled to left to bring home a run, followed by an RBI hit-by-pitch. A double play plated another run, and a wild pitch capped the inning to give the Patriots a 5-0 lead.

Starter Dylan Blomquist kept the Dustdevils quiet in the third, facing the minimum with the help of an inning-ending double play. UT Tyler added another run in the bottom half when Tanner Hornback walked, stole second, and scored on a Cole Ketzner single. International answered with a run in the fourth to cut the lead to 6-1.

The Patriots responded immediately. After two quick outs, a walk and hit-by-pitch set up Ben Lea, who drove a two-run single into the left-center gap to extend the lead to 8-1. The Dustdevils picked up their final run in the fifth on a sacrifice fly, but Will Johnson entered in relief and struck out two to keep them off the board.

UT Tyler added insurance in the sixth when Schmidt doubled and two walks loaded the bases. Ketzner delivered again with an RBI hit to stretch the advantage to 10-2. The Patriots plated their final run in the seventh after a single and passed ball set up Bryce Jewell for an RBI single to right center.

Blomquist worked 3.1 innings in his start, allowing one run before handing the ball to Jacob Hadden, who earned his second win of the season with 1.2 innings of relief. The bullpen trio of Johnson, Jacob Morgan, and Klayton Wingfield combined to toss four scoreless innings, allowing just four hits while striking out three.

Offensively, seven Patriots recorded hits and four finished with multi-hit performances. Schmidt went 2-for-4 and scored three runs, Ketzner drove in three runs on a 2-for-3 day, and Brock Bearden and Smith each added two hits to lead the balanced attack.

UT Tyler returns to the road on February 20 to face Texas A&M–Kingsville, looking to extend its six-game winning streak.
