Japelj and Short Earn LSC Doubles Player of the Week Honors

The Patriots took the men's doubles award for the second straight week to begin the spring season.

RICHARDSON, TEXAS – UT Tyler doubles pair Job Japelj and Trevor Short have earned the Lone Star Conference Men's Doubles Players of the Week award after a strong showing at the ITA Indoor National Championships.
 
Japelj, a junior from Vrhnika, Slovenia, and Short, a sophomore from Abilene, Texas, combined to go 2-0 in the #3 line for the Patriots in a trio of top 10 matchups.
 
To lead the week, the pair led 5-4 over #4 West Florida but their match ultimately went unfinished as the Argonauts clinched the doubles point prior to the finish of their match.
 
Against #9 Azusa Pacific, the pair delivered a huge 6-1 win, helping the Patriots secure the doubles point on their way to a dramatic 4-3 win.
 
In the weekend finale against #5 Lubbock Christian, the pair picked up their second win, a 6-4 effort to cap off an undefeated weekend.
 
The pair is now undefeated in their four finished matches this season.
 
Japelj and Short will lead the Patriots this weekend as they take on #24 Harding on Friday at 11:30 a.m. and Southern Arkansas on Saturday at 11:30 a.m. Both matches will take place at Summers Tennis Center.
