DALLAS, TEXAS - UT Tyler fell 90-79 on the road in Lone Star Conference play Thursday night after the host Patriots used key runs in each half to pull away late.
The home team struck first off a turnover and free throws, but
Hudson Anderson answered early with a layup and later threw down two dunks to give UT Tyler a 9-7 lead at the 16:37 mark. After the game was in favor of UT Tyler at 11-9, the hosts used a 10-2 run, fueled by a three-pointer and second-chance points in the paint, to take a 19-13 advantage midway through the half.

Sam Phipps added a fastbreak dunk to trim the deficit to 26-20.
Sean Emfinger answered a DBU dunk with a pair of free throws at the seven minute mark to push the deficit back to 8. UT Tyler would get five quick points by a Barbee three and a Williams layup to bring it within 5 with 6 minutes to play in the half. UT Tyler would then close the half with a three-pointer from
Chris Carpenter and a late layup from Anderson, yet a triple in the final seconds sent the home side into the break ahead 49-39.
Out of halftime, UT Tyler responded with energy. Phipps scored inside and
Xavier Williams buried a three that cut the deficit to six at 54-48 with just under 17 minutes to play. Inside baskets from Phipps and Williams made the game 62-52 in favor of DBU. DBU would answer with a big run of their own making it a 25 point lead with 9:11 left. UT Tyler continued to battle down the stretch, using a run highlighted by baskets in transition and inside finishes to trim the deficit to 85-69. The Patriots later cut the margin to single digits in the final minute with another Barbee layup, but free throws in the closing seconds sealed the 90-79 final.
Hudson Anderson led UT Tyler with 22 points on 10-of-15 shooting while adding seven rebounds. Sam Phipps recorded a double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds, and John Barbee came off the bench to contribute 14 points, eight boards, and six assists. Xavier Williams finished with 12 points as the Patriots placed four players in double figures. UT Tyler shot 46.9 percent from the floor and outrebounded DBU 50-33, including rebounds that led to 17 second-chance points. However, 29 turnovers and 4-of-18 shooting from three-point range proved costly in the 90-79 setback. The Patriots will look to bounce back Monday in a makeup game against Midwestern State.
