Second Half Surge Pushes Patriots to Big Win over Mustangs

UT Tyler scored 48 points in the second half and outscored Midwestern State by 21 points on their way to a blowout win inside the HPC.

TYLER, TEXAS – UT Tyler women's basketball put together an offensive showcase on Monday night to the tune of a 24 point win over Midwestern State inside the HPC.
 
The Patriots shot a blistering 54.2% from the field and scored at least 20 points in three off the four quarters to take a 79-55 win in LSC play.
 
That hot shooting started immediately, with the Patriots going on a 14-0 run to start the game as Leila Davis lead the scoring early with six points. She would add three more while Mariah Neal buried a pair of three pointers, including one at the buzzer, to push the Patriots to a 20-10 lead after one.
 
The only bad quarter of the night for UT Tyler was the second, where they got outscored 18-11 and shot just 31.3%. That quarter allowed the Mustangs to claw back into the game as they trailed by just three heading into halftime. The big run came over the final 3:31, where the Mustangs scored nine straight points.
 
Despite the momentum in the Mustangs favor, the Patriots came roaring out of the break with a 13-7 run, led by five different players contributions. They would close that period on a 10-2 run over the final 3:50, leaning on five different players yet again to build up a 16 point advantage.
 
That stretch continued into the fourth, where they began the period with a 13-3 run over the first 3:46 of gametime as the lead climbed out to 26. In that stretch alone, Mileina Sablinskaite scored six points while three other Patriots added buckets. Mariah Neal helped close out the contest with a 5-2 run by herself, while Polina Latysheva and Edit Merivirta added a layup each to help the Patriots cruise to a win.
 
In the second half alone, the Patriots shot 64.5% from the floor while going a perfect 5-for-5 at the line. Seven different players scored, with all seven scoring at least four points.
 
In total, four different players reached double figures, led by Leila Davis with 19 points, eight rebounds, one assist, and one block. Mariah Neal added 15 points with three rebounds, three assists, and two steals. Both Polina Latysheva and Mileina Sablinskaite scored 10 points, with Latysheva adding five rebounds, eight assists, and three steals, and Sablinskaite adding six rebounds, one assist, and one steal.
 
UT Tyler continues their week at home on Thursday night, where they will host Cameron for Blue Out Night inside the HPC. That game is scheduled to get started at 5:30 p.m.
