TYLER, TEXAS – UT Tyler tennis capped off their home weekend in style with a sweep of Auburn Montgomery at the Summers Tennis Center on Sunday.
WOMEN'S MATCH: #20 UT Tyler 4 | #25 Auburn Montgomery 2
The Patriots got off to a tough start in doubles, but took four of five singles matches to complete a key comeback win.
Yona Bancarel and
Natalia Gorzny strolled their way to a 6-2 win in line #1 to get things rolling, but the #25 ranked Warhawks responded with a 6-4 win in the #2 line and a 6-4 win in the #3 line to take a 1-0 lead into singles.
The Patriots battled right back in singles, with Gornzy getting things going with a 7-5, 6-0 straight sets win in which she never trailed to even the match at 1-1.
The Warhawks got their answer in the #4 line, but the Patriots avalanche ensued, taking each of the next three matches to earn the 4-2 win. That run was sparked with a 6-0, 6-2 win in line #1 from Bancarel, and
Maria Antonio Ortega finished just a few minutes behind with a 6-4, 6-2 win.
The final point of the match came from the #5 line, where
Paula Castellanos lined up. She took a runaway first set at 6-2, and then followed with a 7-5 thriller to earn the winning point for the Patriots.

The Patriots put together another perfect effort on Sunday, cruising to a second straight 4-0 win.
In doubles, the Patriots swept action, with all matches taking 36 or less minutes.
Job Japelj and
Trevor Short won 6-3 in line #3,
Artiom Dorofeev and
Malo Poulesquen won 6-4 in line #2, and
Carel Wessel and
Daniil Felker won 6-4 in line #1.
That run off from continued in singles, with the Patriots closing a pair of matches out in just 72 minutes to put themselves on match point. Wessel in the #3 line would deliver wins of 6-2, 6-2 coming back from a 1-2 deficit in each set.
Samuel Antwi in line #4 was even more efficient, earning a 6-1, 6-3 straight sets win of his own.
The final counting match of the day came from Poulesquen, who battled back from being down 2-5 in the first set to take a 7-6 (7-2) win. That massive comeback seemed to give him a spark, and he closed his match with a 6-3 win in set two to make it a 4-0 final in favor of UT Tyler.
UT Tyler will have just one matchup this week as they hit the road for Mississippi College on March 6
th. The Choctaws are currently #15 on the women's side and #21 on the men's side.
