Whataburger Postseason Preview: Men’s Tennis

The Patriots will be the #2 seed in this week’s LSC Tournament as they look for their third tournament title in program history.

LSC RECOGNITION
 
The Patriots earned several awards at the season-ending banquet on Wednesday night, led by Carel Wessel winning Senior of the Year and Samuel Antwi winning Newcomer of the Year.
 
Wessel was also named First Team Singles, Second Team Doubles, and to the Sportsmanship team for his efforts this season. Antwi joined Wessel as a First Team Singles selection, and he was also on Second Team Doubles.
 
Daniil Felker earned recognition on both Second Team Singles and Doubles, and he was joined on Second Team Singles by Malo Poulesquen. Artiom Dorofeev and Jordi Garcia Portell were both named Honorable Mention Singles, and Felker and Garcia Portell were both named to the All-Academic Team.
 
IN THE RANKINGS
 
UT Tyler is ranked #6 again this week in the latest ITA Rankings after going 2-0 against UT Dallas and St. Mary's to wrap up the regular season. Four players remain ranked in singles, and two sets of doubles teams are also ranked.
 
Antwi is the #12 ranked singles player, and he is joined in those rankings by #19 Poulesquen, #38 Dorofeev, and #50 Wessel. In doubles, the pair of Felker and Wessel are #14, and Poulesquen and Dorofeev are #41.
 
 
THE LSC TOURNAMENT
 
The LSC Tournament takes place at the Arlington Tennis Center in Arlington, Texas. This is the fifth consecutive year the tournament has been hosted at this site.
 
The Patriots are the #2 seed this weekend with five teams making it into the the LSC men's tournament.
 
#1 seed Lubbock Christian earned a bye into the semifinals and will await the winner of #4 Midwestern State and #5 St. Mary's. #2 seed UT Tyler and #3 seed Cameron each also earned a bye into the semifinals, and they will face off at 1 p.m. on Friday afternoon.
 
The winners of Friday's semifinal matchups will face off in the championship match on Saturday at 1 p.m.
 
THE AGGIES
 
Cameron heads into the postseason with a record of 12-4 and 6-2 in LSC play. They have won each of their last four matches, with their last loss coming back on April 10 to UT Tyler.
 
Lukas Janousek leads the charge for them in singles, standing at a record of 12-3. He was selected All-LSC First Team Singles and is 6-1 in conference play. He also pairs with teammate Moe Milliard to be the top doubles team, going 9-4 on the year and also being named All-LSC First Team Doubles.
 
Back on April 10, the Patriots took a 6-1 win over Cameron at Summers Tennis Center. The only win from the Aggies came from Janousek, who defeated Artiom Dorofeev in the #1 line in three sets.
