Men’s Tennis Earns 4-3 Win over Aggies, Moves into LSC Championship

The Patriots played a dramatic match and got the clinching point from senior Daniil Felker to move into the championship match for the fourth time.

ENNIS, TEXAS – #2 seed UT Tyler men's tennis took a dramatic 4-3 win over #3 seed Cameron on Friday afternoon at the Ennis Tennis Center to punch their ticket into the LSC Tournament championship match on Saturday afternoon.

The Patriots will make their fourth appearance in that championship match as they look for their third LSC Tournament title and first since 2024.

UT Tyler led off doubles with a quick win by Samuel Antwi and Trevor Short in line #3 as they took a 6-2 win, but Cameron responded with wins in both the #1 and #2 lines to take the point. That #2 match would end in a tiebreaker, and that tiebreaker went into extra points before the Aggies took a slim 7-6 (9-7) win.

The early lead from the Aggies was erased by Antwi in singles, who kept up his undefeated record in the #4 line as he delivered a straight sets win of 6-4, 6-4.

The Aggies responded with a win in the #1 line, but Carel Wessel in line #2 again evened the score with a 6-3, 6-4 win in which he trailed for just one game in total in two sets.

The Patriots would flip the trend in the #3 line, taking their first lead of the match as Malo Poulesquen battled in a marathon effort. He took the opener 6-3, but the Aggies answered at 5-7. That set up a deciding third set, and Poulesquen delivered a 6-4 win that saw him come back from a game down at three different points in the set.

With the Patriots on match point, the Aggies would extend the match and force the seventh match to completion as they took a three set win of their own in the #6 line. Senior Daniil Felker stood as the final match on the court and fell behind 4-6 after the first set.

In the second set he would open up a 4-2 lead and coast to a 6-3 win to force a deciding third. In that set he would again race out to a big lead at 4-1 giving him all the momentum on his way to a 6-2 win to take the set and give the Patriots the 4-3 win.

UT Tyler will face off against #1 seed Lubbock Christian on Saturday afternoon in the LSC Tournament championship match back at the Arlington Tennis Center. That match is scheduled for a 1 p.m. start.
