Men’s Tennis Finishes as Runner-Up in LSC Tournament

The Patriots were upended by #1 seed Lubbock Christian in singles as they fell 4-1 on Saturday afternoon.

ARLINGTON, TEXAS – UT Tyler men's tennis put up a tough battle on Saturday, but #1 seed Lubbock Christian found their groove in singles to take a 4-1 win in the LSC Tournament final.

UT Tyler finishes as the tournament runner-up for the second time in program history and first time since 2023. Carel Wessel and Samuel Antwi each landed on the All-Tournament Team.

Trevor Short and Samuel Antwi set the pace in doubles, delivering a 6-3 win in the #3 line to put the Patriots ahead. The Chaps would answer in the #2 line, but Carel Wessel and Daniil Felker would shut things down with another 6-3 win to put the Patriots up 1-0.

In singles, the Chaps would slowly turn the tide. Artiom Dorofeev in line #1 would drop his first set, but a 6-0 second set forced the tiebreaking third. In that third, the Chaps stayed in front, taking a 6-3 win to even the match.

The rest of the matches would be much of the same, with just one finishing in straight sets. The Chaps would get their second win in the #5 line, again taking three sets as Felker battled throughout the match.

Jordi Garcia Portell would take the opening set in line #6, but again the Chaps had the answers as they won the second set 6-2 and third set 6-4 to put themselves on match point.

The final match of the day would conclude in line #3, as the Chaps again held the upper hand. Malo Poulesquen forced a tiebreaker to keep the match going in the second set and also forced it into extra points, but the Chaps would eventually take a 6-4, 7-6 (10-8) win for their fourth point and the tournament title.

UT Tyler will now await their NCAA Tournament fate where they will likely make a fifth straight appearance. The selection show will be live on NCAA.com on Monday, May 4th at 7 p.m. central time.
