Patriots Rally to 2-2 Draw at Colorado Christian

UT Tyler battles back from a two-goal deficit behind goals from Jamie Joyce and Bryan Garcia Valle.

GOLDEN, COLO. – The UT Tyler men's soccer program battled back from a two-goal deficit Saturday afternoon to earn a 2-2 draw against Colorado Christian at Trailblazer Stadium.

The Patriots controlled much of the match despite the early deficit, finishing with advantages in shots (15-9), shots on goal (7-4) and corner kicks (10-2). UT Tyler generated seven shots on goal and continued to pressure the Cougars throughout the second half before finding the equalizer with less than six minutes remaining.

Colorado Christian struck first in the 12th minute when they found the back of the net off a pass. The Cougars added to their advantage in the 22nd minute when they scored yet again to put Colorado Christian ahead 2-0.

The Patriots responded before halftime and cut the deficit in half in the 39th minute. Jamie Joyce scored his first goal of the season off an assist from Theo Alaniz, giving UT Tyler momentum heading into the halftime break.

UT Tyler continued to apply pressure in the second half, recording seven shots and earning five corner kicks after the break. The Patriots' persistence eventually paid off in the 85th minute when Bryan Garcia Valle found the back of the net to level the match at 2-2.

The Patriots continued to look for a go-ahead goal in the closing minutes, but Colorado Christian goalkeeper made five saves in total to keep the match tied. UT Tyler goalkeeper Beaux Benson also made two saves in the contest.

Joyce led the Patriots offensively with three shots, all of which were on goal, while Jaime Casado and Neely each recorded three shots. Bryan Garcia Valle finished with one shot, which resulted in the equalizing goal.

UT Tyler's attack consistently put pressure on the Colorado Christian defense, with the Patriots recording 10 corner kicks compared to just two for the Cougars. The Patriots also held a 7-4 advantage in shots on goal.

The draw moves UT Tyler to 2-0-2 on the season, while Colorado Christian moves to 1-1-4.

The Patriots return to action Thursday on the road against Simon Fraser.
