UT Tyler men's soccer enters Lone Star Conference play with a 2-1-3 record after splitting a pair of matches in Oregon last week. The Patriots opened the trip with a 1-1 draw before suffering their first loss of the season, a 5-0 setback against Western Oregon on Saturday.

In the match Thursday, the Patriots battled back from a second-half deficit to earn a 1-1 draw. UT Tyler trailed 1-0 after a goal in the 62nd minute before Noe Coutiño leveled the match in the 83rd minute. Coutiño finished a crowded scramble following a corner kick, with Luis Martinez credited with the assist. Martinez led the Patriots with three shots, while Beaux Benson made five saves in goal.

UT Tyler then suffered its first loss of the season Saturday, falling 5-0 to Western Oregon. The Patriots were held scoreless for the first time this season after scoring in each of their opening five matches. Western Oregon took a 2-0 lead into halftime before adding three second-half goals. UT Tyler continued to create opportunities throughout the match, recording 12 second-half shots and 17 overall. Martinez finished with five shots, while Coutiño added four attempts. Benson recorded 10 saves, including seven in the second half.

The Patriots now turn their attention to Lone Star Conference play, opening league competition Wednesday at 7 p.m. when they host DBU at Citizens First Bank-Perkins Soccer Complex for Pups at the Pitch. UT Tyler will then hit the road Saturday, traveling to Canyon, Texas, to face West Texas A&M at 1 p.m.

Through six matches, UT Tyler has received contributions from throughout its lineup. Noe Coutiño leads the Patriots with four points on two goals, while Jaime Casado has three points on one goal and one assist. Hugo Dunger, Bryan Garcia Valle, Jamie Joyce, Landon Neely, Dennis Nyame and Azael Ochoa have each recorded two points.

Coutiño leads the Patriots with four goals, while Casado, Dunger, Garcia Valle, Joyce, Neely, Nyame and Ochoa have each scored once. UT Tyler has scored nine goals on 69 shots, putting 25 attempts on target for a .362 shots-on-target percentage. The Patriots have also recorded 35 corner kicks through six matches.

Nyame leads UT Tyler with 12 shots, followed by Martinez with 10, Coutiño with 8, Casado with seven and Neely with seven. Casado has put four of his seven attempts on goal, while Joyce has recorded three shots with all three on target.

Defensively, the Patriots have allowed 10 goals through six matches. Beaux Benson has made 18 saves with a .692 save percentage across 360:28 minutes, while Niclas Becker has recorded five saves and a .714 save percentage in 179:32 minutes. Together, the Patriot goalkeepers have made 23 saves and posted a .697 team save percentage.

PATRIOTS NEWS AND NOTES

• UT Tyler posted an 8-8-3 overall record last season, advancing to the Lone Star Conference Championship Semifinals. At season's end, Luan Rangel earned D2CCA Second Team All-South Central Region and All-Lone Star Conference Second Team honors. William Kenne and Jaxson Stovall were named to the Lone Star Conference All-Tournament Team, while Sid Cleofe, Niko Vasileiou, Luan Rangel, Hugo Marques, William Kenne and Oscar Sosa earned CSC Academic All-District honors. Cleofe was also named to the Lone Star Conference Academic Team, while Niclas Becker earned Lone Star Conference Goalkeeper of the Week honors on Oct. 27.

• Noe Coutiño returns for the Patriots after playing in 19 matches last season, logging 1,165 minutes while scoring four goals and adding two assists. He recorded a .429 shots-on-goal percentage.

• Head coach Kenny Jones is in his 25th season at the helm of the program. Jones, the only head coach in program history, is 250-111-66 in his tenure at UT Tyler and earned his 250th career victory against Colorado School of Mines.

DBU

DBU is 4-2-1 to start the 2026 season after opening the year with a 1-0 loss to UT Tyler before earning wins over Harding, Ouachita Baptist, Colorado School of Mines and No. 24 Western Washington. The Patriots also recorded a 1-1 draw against Colorado Christian and a 1-0 loss to No. 11 Seattle Pacific. Through seven matches this season, DBU has scored 10 goals while conceding six, averaging 13.9 shots per match and putting 32.0 percent of its attempts on target. The Patriots finished last season 7-7-4 overall and 4-3-3 in Lone Star Conference play. UT Tyler leads the all time series 10-6-2 since 2002.

West Texas A&M

West Texas A&M is 2-5 to start the 2026 season after opening the year with a 4-0 win over Adams State before dropping five of its next six matches, including losses to Fort Lewis, Colorado Christian, Southern Nazarene, Northwest Nazarene and Saint Martin's. The Buffaloes' lone additional win came against Newman, while their match against Fort Hays State was suspended due to weather. Through seven matches, West Texas A&M has scored six goals while conceding 16, averaging 11.6 shots per match and putting 48.1 percent of its attempts on target. The Buffs finished last season 6-9-2 overall and 3-5-2 in Lone Star Conference play. The Buffs lead the all time series 5-0-3 since 2021.
