UT Tyler men's soccer moved to 2-2-4 overall and 0-1-1 in Lone Star Conference play after earning a scoreless draw against Dallas Baptist before falling 3-1 to West Texas A&M last week. The Patriots opened conference play with a 0-0 draw against DBU Wednesday at Citizens First Bank-Perkins Soccer Complex before dropping a 3-1 decision to West Texas A&M Saturday in Canyon.

UT Tyler opened the week with a hard-fought 0-0 draw against DBU. The Patriots were tested early as the opposition recorded 11 first-half shots, including five on target, but Niclas Becker turned away all five attempts to keep the match scoreless at halftime. UT Tyler finished the opening half with six shots and continued to create opportunities after the break. Jamie Joyce led the Patriots with four shots, while Becker finished with eight saves to record his second shutout of the season. UT Tyler earned three consecutive corner kicks late in the match but was unable to find the breakthrough.

The Patriots then traveled to Canyon on Saturday, falling 3-1 to West Texas A&M in their second LSC match of the season. UT Tyler trailed early before Noe Coutino converted a penalty kick in the 33rd minute to even the match at 1-1. Coutino's goal marked his third of the season. West Texas A&M regained the lead before halftime and added another goal in the 55th minute to make it a 3-1 contest. UT Tyler finished with nine shots, including four on goal, while Becker made four saves. Yanis Lasri led the Patriots with two shots, including one on target.

The Patriots return home Tuesday, Sept. 30, hosting Midwestern State in their third Lone Star Conference match of the season at Citizens First Bank-Perkins Soccer Complex. UT Tyler will then hit the road Saturday, Oct. 3, traveling to Lubbock, Texas, to face Lubbock Christian.

PATS STATS

Through eight matches, UT Tyler has received contributions from throughout its lineup. Noe Coutiño leads the Patriots with six points on three goals, while Jaime Casado has three points on one goal and one assist. Hugo Dunger, Bryan Garcia Valle, Jamie Joyce, Landon Neely, Dennis Nyame and Azael Ochoa have each recorded two points.

Coutiño leads the Patriots with three goals, while Casado, Dunger, Garcia Valle, Joyce, Neely, Nyame and Ochoa have each scored once. UT Tyler has scored 10 goals on 76 shots, putting 28 attempts on target for a .368 shots-on-target percentage. The Patriots have also recorded 45 corner kicks through eight matches.

Nyame leads UT Tyler with 13 shots, followed by Coutiño and Luis Martinez with 12 each. Joyce and Neely have each recorded eight shots, while Casado has seven. Casado and Joyce have each put four of their attempts on goal, while Coutiño and Neely have also recorded four shots on target.

Defensively, the Patriots have allowed 13 goals through eight matches. Niclas Becker has made 17 saves with a .773 save percentage across 359:32 minutes, while Beaux Benson has recorded 18 saves and a .692 save percentage in 360:28 minutes. Together, the Patriot goalkeepers have made 35 saves and posted a .729 team save percentage, while recording three shutouts.

PATRIOTS NEWS AND NOTES

  • UT Tyler posted an 8-8-3 overall record last season, advancing to the Lone Star Conference Championship Semifinals. At season's end, Luan Rangel earned D2CCA Second Team All-South Central Region and All-Lone Star Conference Second Team honors. William Kenne and Jaxson Stovall were named to the Lone Star Conference All-Tournament Team, while Sid Cleofe, Niko Vasileiou, Luan Rangel, Hugo Marques, William Kenne and Oscar Sosa earned CSC Academic All-District honors. Cleofe was also named to the Lone Star Conference Academic Team, while Niclas Becker earned Lone Star Conference Goalkeeper of the Week honors on Oct. 27.
  • Noe Coutiño returns for the Patriots after playing in 19 matches last season, logging 1,165 minutes while scoring four goals and adding two assists. He recorded a .429 shots-on-goal percentage.
  • Head coach Kenny Jones is in his 25th season at the helm of the program. Jones, the only head coach in program history, is 250-112-67 in his tenure at UT Tyler and earned his 250th career victory against Colorado School of Mines.


Midwestern State

Midwestern State enters Wednesday's matchup with an 8-0-2 overall record and a 2-0 mark in Lone Star Conference play. The Mustangs are riding a six-match winning streak and have gone 3-0 at home, 1-0-2 on the road and 4-0 at neutral sites this season. Through 10 matches, Midwestern State has outscored its opponents 28-7, averaging 2.80 goals and 16.8 shots per match. The Mustangs have put 43.5 percent of their 168 shots on target while recording 73 shots on goal. Midwestern State has also recorded 23 assists and 70 corner kicks this season. Defensively, the Mustangs have allowed seven goals through 10 matches, limiting opponents to 10.7 shots per game. The Chaps are riding a one-match winning streak and have gone 4-1-1 at home this season. Through nine matches, Lubbock Christian has scored 15 goals while conceding 12, averaging 13.6 shots per match. The Chaps have put 42.6 percent of their 122 shots on target, recording 52 shots on goal. Lubbock Christian has also recorded nine assists and 39 corner kicks this season. Defensively, the Chaps have allowed 12 goals through nine matches while opponents have averaged 11.7 shots per game. Lubbock Christian has recorded 35 saves and has converted both of its penalty-kick attempts this season. Lubbock Christian leads the all-time series 5-0-3 against the Patriots.
