AUSTIN, Texas - The UT Tyler Women's Basketball team opened the 2018-19 season at Huston-Tillotson on Saturday evening. UT Tyler fell 60-71 in overtime.
FIRST QUARTER:
The Patriots opened the game with a 10-2 run, opening an early eight-point lead over the Rams. Three late points from the Rams would lead to a 10-5 score through 10 minutes of play.
Bianca Valderrama would lead the Patriots in the first quarter with three points while
Shadazia Birchette,
Carissa Spiker, and
Tyreesha Blaylock would each add a bucket.
SECOND QUARTER:
Aubree Adams and Spiker would combine for eight of the Patriots 11 second quarter points. The Rams would take a 14-12 lead before UT Tyler bounced back to take a 21-16 lead into the half.
FIRST HALF BOX SCORE:
THIRD QUARTER:
UT Tyler would stretch the lead to nine points in the third quarter behind their best offensive quarter of the game. The Patriots outscored the Rams 18-14 in the third behind a 7-0 run to open the second half.
FOURTH QUARTER:
The final quarter of regulation saw the Patriots and Rams combine for 39 points. The Patriots would get nine of their 15 fourth quarter points from Valderrama. The Rams would tie the game on a three with 31 seconds left in regulation. A last-second three from Spiker would not find the mark, leading to overtime in the season opener.
SECOND HALF BOX SCORE:
OVERTIME:
An early 11-3 run from the Rams put UT Tyler down by eight with 2:53 remaining. UT Tyler would bring the game within five with 1:33 remaining after Blaylock sank a three before the Rams would score the final six points of the game, dealing the Patriots a 60-71 loss.
