Box Score TYLER, Texas - The UT Tyler Women's Basketball team played their first game inside the city limits of Tyler on Tuesday night. The Patriots took on Texas College on the road, downing the Steers 70-46, moving to 1-3 overall.
FIRST HALF:
The Patriots opened the game on a roll, scoring 16 points in the first 10 minutes of action. The Patriot defense would hold the Steers to just eight points in the first 10 minutes, opening an early 16-8 lead.
The offensive pressure would continue in the second quarter as UT Tyler put up 20 points. The Patriot defense would stand strong, holding the steers to just six points in the second. The 14 point advantage in the second quarter allowed UT Tyler to stretch their early eight-point lead to 22 going into the half. The first half efforts led UT Tyler to their largest first-half lead of the season.
SECOND HALF:
The Patriots reached double-digits again in the third quarter, netting 15 points. The Steers would cut the lead to 20 by putting up 17 points out of the intermission. Despite allowing 17 points, UT Tyler would not allow the Steers within 15 points of the lead.
The fourth quarter saw UT Tyler seal the deal with their second-highest scoring quarter of the night. The Patriots put up 19 points while the defense held the Steers to 15. The Patriots would stretch their lead to 24 in the final quarter before sealing a 24-point victory over the Steers, 70-46.
The win on Tuesday moved UT Tyler to 2-0 over Texas College all-time. The last matchup between the teams was in 2011 when UT Tyler won 70-69.
DOUBLE TROUBLE:
Shadazia Birchette and
Carissa Spiker led the way for UT Tyler as both recorded double-doubles in the win. Birchette put up a team-high 18 points while recording a team-high 11 rebounds. Of Birchette's 11 boards, seven were defensive. Spiker put up 14 points and pulled in nine defensive rebounds and one offensive board, leading to her second-straight double-double.
MyKaela Alfred put up nine points while recording nine rebounds.
Samantha Odom scored 14 points, a season-high while pulling down seven rebounds.
