TYLER, Texas - The UT Tyler Men's Basketball team continued their five-game home stand with a matchup against University of the Ozarks on Saturday. The Patriots won their third straight, defeating the Eagles 73-68, moving the 3-2 overall.
FIRST HALF:
A 14-2 run to open the game gave UT Tyler an early 12-point advantage. The run spanned nearly five minutes.
UT Tyler would hold the lead through the first 10:58 of play before a jumper with 9:02 remaining gave the Eagles their first lead of the afternoon.
Jared Jenkins would put the Patriots back on top just a minute later with a three off an assist from
Corbin Stephens.
UT Tyler held the lead through the final eight minutes of play, stretching the lead to six before the final buzzer sounded.
Xavier Fogle would record a team-high 11 points in the first 20 minutes of play.
Chris Craig led the team with four rebounds.
After 20 minutes of play, UT Tyler would lead 36-30.
SECOND HALF:
UT Tyler stretched the lead to eight twice to open the second half, both times courtesy of a layup from Craig.
UT Tyler would hold the lead until Ozarks tied the game at 45 with 14:27 remaining.
The Patriots responded with a 7-0 run capped off with a second chance bucket from
Kaelin Love. Through 28 minutes of play, UT Tyler would lead 52-45.
A Fogle three with 10:42 remaining in the game gave UT Tyler a 58-49 lead.
The Patriots would not let the lead slip for the final 10 minutes of play. Ozarks would bring the game within two points with 1:50 remaining before five late free-throws gave the Patriots a 73-68 victory.
UT TYLER LEADERS:
Fogle would lead all scorers with 21 points in the win. Fogle added five rebounds and was one of four Patriots to post double-digit scoring numbers.
Craig finished the game with a team high six boards and 16 points.
Brad Mason finished the night with 11 points, going 5-7 at the line.
Jared Jenkins scored 10 points, going 2-2 from behind the arc and 2-2 at the line.
BY THE NUMBERS:
UT Tyler scored 30 points from behind the arc while shooting 21-49 from the field.
The Patriots scored 22 points in the paint while scoring ine points off of turnovers.
The UT Tyler bench contributed 12 points while scoring nine second chance points.
