AUSTIN, Texas - The UT Tyler Women's Basketball team played their first road game in over two weeks on Saturday afternoon. The Patriots pushed their winning streak to six games after defeating Concordia University on the road. The 54-51 win moves UT Tyler to 6-3 overall.
Saturday's game was highlighted by a 15 point comeback that took place over the course of the final 10 minutes of play in Austin. Despite entering the final quarter of play down 25-37, the Patriots put up 29 points in 10 minutes to seal a thrilling 54-51 victory.
MyKaela Alfred would drain a three with just one second remaining on the clock to propel the Patriots to their sixth straight win of the season.
The fourth quarter comeback went into full swing over the first five minutes of action when the Patriots went on a 12-0 run. UT Tyler wold keep Concordia off the board for more than five minutes as the Patriots mounted the comeback.
Carissa Spiker was fouled on a fast break layup after pulling in a defensive rebound. With 5:10 remaining, Spiker drained her free-throw to tie the game at 37.
With 2:41 remaining, Concordia had pushed their lead back to nine points, mounting the second comeback of the quarter for the Patriots. Down by eight points with less than a minute remaining, the Patriots would get buckets from
Samantha Odom,
Tyreesha Blaylock, Spiker, and the game winner from Alfred. A jumper from Blaylock with :42 left and a free-throw from Odom with :33 remaining cut the lead to five points.
Alfred would pull in a pass from Blaylock with :27 remainng, draining a three and cutting the lead to just two points. Just four seconds later, Concordia took a three-point lead after a free throw with :22 on the clock. Spiker would drain a three with eight seconds left to even up the game at 51. The Patriots forced a turnover on the very next play setting up a shot to win the game with just :01 remaining. Blaylock would hit her second three in a minute with just one second left to give the Patriots a 54-51 lead and the win.
BY THE NUMBERS:
The Patriots outscored themselves in the fourth quarter, mounting the 15-point comeback after putting up 29 in the final quarter. UT Tyler would score 28 points in the paint while scoring 20 points after forcing a turnover, including the winning basket. The Patriot bench contributed 22 points while 12 points were scored on fast break opportunities.
Despite shooting 34.5% from the field on Saturday, UT Tyler shot nearly 60% in the final 10 minutes of play, sinking a trio of three's in the process. UT Tyler went 11-15 at the free-throw line in the win.
UT TYLER LEADERS:
Samantha Odom would record a double-double in the win, pulling in a game-high 15 rebounds and scoring 10 points.
Carissa Spiker went 5-11 from the field, scoring a team-high 12 points.
Aubree Adams was the third Patriot to post double-digit points, scoring 10 while pulling in four rebounds.
