BELTON, Texas - The UT Tyler Women's Basketball team continued their road trip with a matchup against Mary Hardin Baylor on Monday night. The Patriots fell 73-84, snapping a six-game winning streak. UT Tyler now sits 6-4 overall.
The Patriots opened the game with a tight first quarter that saw the teams combine for 40 points over the first 10 minutes of action. The Patriots would find themselves down early but never let the lead reach double digits. UMHB would hold the lead for the majority of the first quarter before UT Tyler brought the game within two points before the buzzer sounded with the Patriots trailing 19-21.
UT Tyler would respond with another high-scoring quarter in the second, putting up 19 points. The Cru would match the Patriots offensive output, putting up 19 points themselves. The Patriots would lead on three separate occasions with the largest lead being three points late in the quarter. Despite taking the late lead, UT Tyler trailed 38-40 at the half.
The third quarter saw the Patriots and Cru play another tight battle, combining for 36 points. The Cru would post 19 while UT Tyler put up 17 out of the intermission. After 30 minutes of play, the Patriots trailed by four. The fourth quarter saw the Patriots fall behind as the Cru tallied 25 points in the final 10 minutes of action. The Patriots put up 17 points but UMHB would take the game by 11 as the final buzzer sounded.
BY THE NUMBERS:
UT Tyler shot 41.7% from the field, connecting on seven shots from behind the arc. UT Tyler would score 32 of their points in the paint while the bench contributed 15 points in the loss.
UT TYLER LEADERS:
Bianca Valderrama led the way for UT Tyler, scoring a season-high 24 points on Monday night. Valderrama added six rebounds and went 3-3 from behind the arc.
Carissa Spiker would post 15 points, shooting a perfect 4-4 at the free throw line.
