JACKSON, Mississippi - The UT Tyler Women's Basketball team improved to 10-5 after defeating Belhaven University on Saturday afternoon. The Patriots defeated the Blazers 58-53.
Saturday's win pushed the Patriots winning streak to four games, their second largest of the season. The Patriots ran a six-game winning streak after defeating Texas College in the third game of the season.
The Patriots fell behind early in Saturday's game as Belhaven opened 6-2 to open the game. UT Tyler would take their lead back with five minutes remaining, extending the lead to three points after the first quarter buzzer sounded. A strong second quarter allowed the Patriots pull ahead, taking an eight point lead into the intermission. The Patriots outscored the Blazers 15-10 in the second quarter.
Both the Patriots and Blazers put together their best offensive quarters in the third, combining for 41 points. The Patriots put up 18 while Belhaven cut the lead to three points after posting 23 points. With the three-point lead, The Patriots would hold their advantage through the final buzzer. The Patriots led by as many as 10 points in the fourth before winning the game with a five-point margin.
UT TYLER LEADERS:
Bianca Valderrama led the Patriots offensively for the second night in as many games. The Senior recorded 14 points, adding three rebounds.
Aubree Adams was one of three Patriots to record double digit numbers as she scored 12 points, hauling in six boards.
MyKaela Alfred finished the night with 11 points.
The Patriots return to Tyler for a matchup with UT Dallas on Thursday, January 17. Tip-off is slated for 5:30 p.m.
