TYLER, Texas - The UT Tyler Women's Basketball team hosted UT Dallas in the Louise Herrington Patriot Center on Thursday night. The Patriots fell 58-84, moving to 10-6 overall.
The loss ended UT Tyler's four-game winning streak and was just the first loss at home this season.
The Patriots would rally from a 5-0 UTD run to bring the game within a point with 7:42 remaining in the first quarter. The Comets would take a 10-point advantage midway through the first quarter before stretching the lead to 13 with a late three. The Patriots cut the lead to 10 on a buzzer beater, half court shot from
Tyreesha Blaylock. UT Tyler would rebound in the second, cutting the lead to just four with 4:23 left in the half. UTD would not take more than a 10-point advantage in the second as UT Tyler outscored the Comets 18-16 in the quarter. After 20 minutes of play, the Patriots trailed 34-42.
The third quarter saw UTD stretch their lead to 12 points as the Comets held the Patriots to 13 points in the quarter. The final quarter of play saw the Patriots post 11 points while the Comets put up 25, stretching their final lead to 26 points.
BY THE NUMBERS:
Despite the loss, UT Tyler shot 51.1% from the field, connecting on three shots from behind the arc. UT Tyler scored 34 points in the paint while the bench contributed 18 points.
UT TYLER LEADERS:
Bianca Valderrama led the way offensively for UT Tyler, scoring 11 points.
Samantha Odom finished with 10 points.
Shadazia Birchette finished with a team high five rebounds along with teammate
Tyreesha Blaylock who finished the night with nine points.
