Glover Scores 34 Points In OT Defeat

Ty Glover made five three-pointers in a 34-point effort as UT Tyler lost to Dixie State in overtime, 100-91

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah -- Ty Glover scored a game-high 34 points to lead UT Tyler in an overtime battle with Dixie State, as the Patriots suffered a 100-91 defeat to the Trailblazers in the second game of the 2019-20 season.

Glover scored 16 points in the first half and added 18 in the second half, tying him for the sixth-highest single-game scoring effort in program history. As a team, UT Tyler was 12-for-39 on three-pointers, finishing one attempt shy of the school's single-game record for three-point attempts.

Jerekius Davis and Micah Fuller added 14 points each, but Dixie State had six players reach double figures in scoring, led by Jack Pagenkopf's 17-point, 13-rebound, 10-assist triple-double.

With the defeat, UT Tyler fell to 0-2 on the year, while Dixie State improved to 2-0.

How It Happened: Dixie State opened the game with a 12-2 run, but UT Tyler responded with a 25-8 run capped by consecutive three-pointers from Micah Fuller and Ty Glover to take a 27-20 lead with 8:37 remaining in the first half. Dixie State regained control with a 10-0 run and took a 44-40 lead into halftime.

The Patriots tied the game four times in the second half, but Dixie State never trailed again until the final minute of regulation, when Glover pushed UT Tyler in front, 83-81, with a layup to finish a coast-to-coast fast break. Micah Fuller made 1-of-2 free throws with 10 seconds left to cap an 8-0 run and give the Patriots a three-point cushion, 84-81. Dixie State's last chance to survive was a Jack Pagenkopf three-pointer, which he knocked down in the closing seconds to force overtime.

Dixie State scored the first 11 points of overtime, ending with a Pagenkopf layup in the paint to give the Trailblazers a 95-84 lead. UT Tyler was able to cut the margin to seven, 98-91, with less than a minute to play after Ty Bennett made a pair of free throws, Da'Zhon Wyche made a layup, and Bennett added a three-pointer. However, the Patriots missed a three-pointer that could have made it a four-point game with less than 30 seconds remaining. The Trailblazers grabbed the rebound and sealed the win with a pair of free throws..

Turning Point: The first six overtime possessions for each team determined the final outcome of the game. The Patriots went 0-for-5 from the floor and gave up the ball on a Dixie State steal, and the Trailblazers not only grabbed all five defensive rebounds, they scored on all six possessions to take their largest lead of the game, 95-84, with just over two minutes left in overtime.

UT Tyler Standouts: Ty Glover followed his season-opening 20-point effort with 34 points on 11-of-23 shooting including 5-of-10 three-pointers. He was also a perfect 7-for-7 from the free throw line, and he also pulled down a team-high 8 rebounds. Jerekius Davis and Micah Fuller each scored 14 points, while Chris Giles dished out a team-high 7 assists. Quinn Smith, Da'Zhon Wyche, and Ty Bennett each added 7 points.
