LAWTON, OKLA. – The Patriots men's cross country program locked in a fourth place finish while the women's program finished in 12
th at today's Lone Star Conference championship meet.
The Patriots men's program finished the meet with a placement score of 150 to earn fourth place overall. That score was just five points back of third place, and seven points back of second.
Leading the way for UT Tyler's men's program was none other than
Angel Contreras. Contreras continued his fine form on the season, leading the team with a sixth place finish. That finish was good enough to earn himself All-Lone Star Conference honors for the second year in a row. Contreras ran the 10K race in a time of 25:51.25 to finish just 1.23 seconds behind fifth.
The Patriots had a trio of finishers all finish within just 15 seconds of one another.
Jack Gipson,
Lorenzo Chavez, and
Landon Thornton placed in 24
th, 26
th, and 29
th, respectively, on the morning run. Gipson ran the 10K in a time of 26:46.52, Chavez finished in 26:55.65, and Thornton finished with a time of 27:01.50. Rounding out the scoring for the Patriots men was
Kalen Barlow, recording a placement score of 65.
On the women's side of the meet, the UT Tyler women's program combined for a placement score of 335. That score would be just 21 points out of the top 10 in the meet.
Leading the way for the Patriots women was
Natasha Carcano. Carcano has led the way in each event so far this fall, and she did so again with a placement score of 47. Carcano ran the 6K in 24:48.17.
Finishing second and third on the team and finishing just 11 seconds apart was the duo of
Calista Segura and
Shelby John. Segura finished with a placement score of 61 while running a time of 25:31.11. John ran a time of 25:42.16 and finished with a placement score of 66.
The final scoring times of the day for the Patriots women were recorded by
Tiffany Vargas and
Marissa Agee. They finished the 6K race with placement scores of 77 and 84, respectively.

The UT Tyler men's and women's programs will be back in action in two weeks as they head to Lubbock, Texas for the NCAA Division II South Central Regional championships on November 6th.
