UT Tyler Stays at no. 5 in South Central Regional Rankings

UT Tyler remained in the no. 5 spot of the South Central Regional rankings as announced by the committee on Wednesday afternoon

TYLER, TEXAS – The University of Texas at Tyler volleyball teamed stayed at no. 5 in the 2021 Division II South Central Regional rankings as announced by the regional advisory committee on Wednesday afternoon.

Wednesday's ranking is the second of three editions of the South Central Regional rankings that will be published prior to the selection of the 2021 NCAA Division II South Central Regional Tournament field on Monday, Nov. 22. The winners of the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) and Lone Star Conference (LSC) Postseason Tournaments will receive the two available automatic qualifying bids in the tournament, while the final six teams of the eight-team field will be at-large bids based on the top six remaining highest ranked teams in the South Central Regional rankings.

The top five teams in the second edition of the rankings stayed the same as MSU Denver (22-2), Colorado School of Mines (21-3) and Angelo State (21-3) all stayed as the top three teams in the rankings. Regis remained in the no. 4 spot ahead of the Patriots with a mark of 19-5 on the year.

The Patriots stayed ahead of Colorado Mesa (no. 6) and Lubbock Christian (no. 7), who jumped into the no. 7 spot after West Texas A&M dropped both of their matches last weekend and fell down to no. 8. Colorado State-Pueblo entered the second regional rankings in the no. 9 spot ahead of Texas A&M-Commerce (no. 10).

The Patriots are deadlocked with Angelo State at the top of the Lone Star Conference standings with records of 14-1. Angelo State holds the tiebreaker over UT Tyler after winning the head-to-head match-up between the two sides back on Oct. 23 in San Angelo.

UT Tyler has already clinched their spot in the 2021 LSC Postseason Tournament and still have the ability to serve as hosts of the quarterfinal, semifinal and championship matches on Nov. 18-20 if they were to secure the no. 1 spot in the LSC standings at season's end.
