Patriots Women Set for Critical Stretch of Three Non-Conference Games

The UT Tyler Women’s Basketball program will have three non-conference games in quick succession as they play Thursday, Saturday and Monday before taking a break for Christmas.

TYLER, TEXAS – The Patriots are looking to build on a four game winning streak and continue to turn heads as they will turn to face the conference schedule come Monday afternoon. UT Tyler will take on UAFS, Oklahoma Christian, and Texas Woman's on Thursday, Saturday, and Monday, respectively.

JUST KEEP WINNING

That four game winning streak for the Patriots is their longest since another four game winning streak from January 3-12 back in 2019. That year the Patriots finished 13-11 overall.

On their win streak, UT Tyler is outscoring opponents by 10.5 per game and averaging 72 points per contest. On the defensive side of the ball, opponents are being held to just 34.9% shooting and are averaging 16 turnovers.

SERIES HISTORY

The Patriots have taken on the Lions from UAFS just twice in their program's history. Both of those contests came in the 2019-2020 season. On 1/18/2020, UT Tyler forced overtime against the Lions but were unable to come away with the victory in the Herrington Patriot Center.

Against Oklahoma Christian the Patriots are also 0-2. Both of those games also came in the 2019-2020 season. The teams split hosting duties on those two games and the Eagles came away with the victory each time.

The Patriots have faced Texas Woman's just once in program history. That matchup came back on 12/21/2019 and the Pioneers came away with the victory by a score of 65-49 in Denton, Texas.

THE SCOUTING REPORT

This season the Lions are 2-5 and are averaging 57.4 points per game and allowing opponents to score 70.7 points per game. They are shooting 34.4% from the floor and 25.7% from beyond the arc. Senior Page Elston leads the way for the program, averaging 11.3 points and 5.1 rebounds per contest.

The Lions are coached by first year head coach Ryan McAdams. McAdams previously was an assistant at New Mexico State and was also the head coach at Eastern Arizona College.

The Eagles will come into the matchup with Patriots at 0-7 on the year. They are averaging 63.9 points per game and have a scoring margin of -15.8. From the floor, the Eagles are shooting 36.3% and are 28.4% from deep. Brooklin Bain leads the way, averaging 15.3 points and 10.7 rebounds per game. Bain alone has four double doubles on the season thus far.

Oklahoma Christian is led by Stephanie Findley, who is in her 37th season of coaching the program. Findley is the longest tenured coach at the collegiate level in the state of Oklahoma, and holds a career record of 638-470.

Texas Woman's will go into the game against the Patriots with a 6-3 record as they do not play again until Monday. As a team the Pioneers are averaging 64.7 points per game and give up 58.1 per game. They are shooting 39.3% as a team and 34.2% from behind the three point line. Junior Sadie Mayer leads the way, averaging 15.4 points per game and she is also shooting 43.8% from three.

Beth Jillson leads the Pioneers for the 15th consecutive season. She ranks as the all-time winningest coach in Pioneer history and has led Texas Woman's to two NCAA tournament appearances. She currently holds an all time record of 198-191.

OFFENSE CATCHING FIRE

During the winning streak, the Patriot offense has started to ramp up and lead the team. The offense is shooting 50% from the floor over those four games, and the assist numbers have gone up as a result. UT Tyler is averaging 20.5 assists per game during the streak and now averages 19.0 on the year. The Patriots are second in field goal percentage and assists per game in the Lone Star Conference and sit second nationally in assists per game.

CONFERENCE IS RIGHT AROUND THE CORNER

Following Monday's game against Texas Woman's, the Patriots will break for Christmas and not play again until December 31. That New Year's Eve contest will come against those same Pioneers and will be a part of a two game homestand that sees the Patriots play Midwestern State on January 2nd.

Those two matchups will open up the conference slate for the Patriots in which they will play 16 games. Eight of those will come in the Herrington Patriot Center and the other eight will come on the road.
