Women’s Basketball Falls Despite Rebounding Edge

UT Tyler posted a 48-40 rebounding advantage, but the Patriots fell to Cameron on the road Saturday, 74-41

LAWTON, Okla. -- UT Tyler posted a positive rebounding margin for the second consecutive game, but Cameron made 12 three-pointers to roll to a 74-41 win over the Patriots Saturday afternoon.

Maighan Hedge led the way for the Aggies, scoring a game-high 17 points with 4 three-pointers, and Kelsey Crouse led the way for UT Tyler with 8 points and 4 rebounds. The Patriots posted a 48-40 rebounding edge, winning the battle of the boards for the second straight game while tying a season-high with 48 rebounds.

Turning Point: Cameron opened each half with 20-point quarters, jumping out to an early 9-point lead after the first quarter and extending the lead to 21 points by halftime. The Aggies hit 3 three-pointers in all four quarters, including a 20-point third-quarter effort which extended the lead to 56-25.

How It Happened: Maighan Hedge knocked down 3 of her 4 three-pointers in the first quarter, helping Cameron to a 20-11 after the first 10 minutes, and she made another in the second quarter to help the Aggies to a 16-4 second-quarter scoring margin.

In the third quarter, UT Tyler matched Cameron's scoring, 10-10, through the first 5 minutes of the third quarter, but the Aggies finished the quarter with a 10-0 run to extend the lead to 56-25 with 10 minutes left in the contest. Cameron maintained a lead of at least 29 points the rest of the way.

UT Tyler Standouts: Although finishing without a double digit scorer, 10 of the 11 Patriots who played scored with Kelsey Crouse tallying a team-high 8 points. Taylor Jackson added 6 points, Azaria Reed pulled down a game-high 8 rebounds, and Kayla James dished out a team-high 4 assists with 3 steals.

Cameron Standouts: Maighan Hedge led all scorers with 17 points, and she also finished with a game-high 6 assists. Delecia Brown came off the bench to score 11 points on 5-of-5 shooting including a three-pointer.

By The Numbers: UT Tyler posted a 48-40 rebounding edge, resulting in a 7-6 edge in second chance points… The Patriots committed 26 turnovers, while Cameron committed 11, and the Aggies converted them into a 26-7 edge in points off turnovers… UT Tyler shot 29 percent (17-for-59) from the field including a 22 percent (4-for-18) clip from three-point range… Cameron shot 41 percent (26-for-64) overall and 32 percent (12-for-38) on three-pointers.

What's Next: UT Tyler returns home next week, hosting UAFS (Arkansas Fort Smith) for a pair of Lone Star Conference games on Feb. 12-13.
