TYLER, TEXAS - #6 UT Tyler shutout Texas Woman's for the day with 3-0 and 4-0 wins to run their win streak to 10 straight in Lone Star Conference play.
The Patriots (16-4, 10-0 LSC) moved to a perfect 10-0 in league play as
Payton Foster and
Erin Hill both tossed complete game shutouts on a day in which the Patriot offense made the most of their eight hits between the two games. Hill hung tough in game number two to complete the sweep, stranding 11 Pioneer (4-11, 3-7 LSC) base runners, while Foster picked up her seventh win on the year with nine strikeouts and just three hits allowed in her seven innings of work.
Foster worked hard to conserve her shutout in the top of the sixth in game number one, getting out of a bases-loaded situation to keep the 3-0 Patriot lead intact. UT Tyler struck for all three of their runs in the bottom of the fourth with two outs in the 3-0 game one victory.
Grace Davis crossed home plate first for the Patriots after pinch running for
Kyla Mach, who got on via a leadoff walk, and was driven in by
Serena Saldivar after she was bunted over to second by a sacrifice bunt from
Ashley Perez after coming on to run for Mach.
Mak Dominguez was hit by a pitch in the ensuing at bat and then came around to score alongside Shae Smith, who pinch ran for Saldivar after the RBI single that broke the scoreless tie.
Shae Harris cleared the bases with a triple off the right field wall that drove in Dominguez and Smith.
Foster went to work in the fifth with her first advantage of the contest and retired the Pioneer side in order in that frame before working out of the bases loaded situation in the top of the sixth with a pop out to the infield that took the 3-0 Patriot lead into the seventh and final inning. She worked around a one-out single for Texas Woman's in that seventh inning and ended the 3-0 win with her ninth and final strikeout of the contest.
The Saldivar single and the Harris triple stood as the lone hits for the Patriots in game number one, proving to be the two hits that the Patriots needed to collect their ninth straight LSC win.
Hill had to bear down a bit more in game number two, stranding five base runners in her first two innings of work in the circle, including a bases-loaded jam with one out in the first. Hill stranded a base runner in the first six innings before finally working through the Pioneer batters in order in the top of the seventh.
UT Tyler scored with two outs on the board once again in the bottom of the second to allow Hill some breathing room with a 1-0 advantage after two innings of play. Davis came around to score as a pinch runner for the second time in that frame, scoring on an error by the Pioneer right fielder on a hard hit ball from
Shelby Hughston that was dropped in the Pioneer outfield to allow Davis to score the unearned run.
UT Tyler got going at the plate in the bottom of the sixth with three hits that scored a trio of runs to provide a 4-0 cushion for Hill in the seventh. All three of those hits for UT Tyler came with two outs as
Tristin Anders came in to pinch hit and delivered with a single to right center that scored pinch runner
Michelle Arias from second.
Arias pinch ran for
Avery Farr earlier in the inning and stole second to give Anders the opportunity with a runner in scoring position. Anders followed suit after her single that doubled the Patriot advantage and stole second herself before
Bayli Simon drove her home with a double deep into the left field corner that scored Anders.
Hughston finished off the three runs for UT Tyler with a single on the ensuing at bat that score the third straight Patriot runner from second base to build the 4-0 lead. Hill struck out the leadoff batter in the seventh and then manufactured a pair of groundouts to end the second game with a 4-0 Patriot win, the fifth-straight doubleheader sweep for the Patriots.
Hill struck out eight Pioneers to total 17 on the day for herself and Foster combined, and moved her overall record to 9-1 for the year.
Haleigh Swinney went 2-for-4 from her leadoff role in the lineup while Anders, Simon and Hughston all recorded RBI in the effort.
UT Tyler will get back on the field on Sunday afternoon for a doubleheader against Midwestern State set to get underway at 1 p.m.
