TEXARKANA, Texas -- The UT Tyler men's tennis team picked up its first win of the 2021 season Tuesday with a convincing 7-0 verdict over Texas A&M-Texarkana.
Jan Lucca Marquardt and Gonzalo Fernandez Gil produced a decisive 6-1 victory at the top doubles position to lead the Patriots to the team doubles point, and both claimed three-set wins in their victories at the singles positions atop the singles lineup. Marquardt bounced back from an opening-set defeat to collect a 4-6, 7-5, 6-3 win, and Fernandez Gil won the first and third sets in a 7-5, 1-6, 6-3 victory to set UT Tyler on a winning track.
The remaining four singles matches were all Patriot victories, and all in straight sets, and Moritz Mayer and Egor Shestakov produced the 6-3 win at No. 2 doubles which ensured the doubles point.
