TYLER, TEXAS – The UT Tyler women's soccer program will play on their home field for the first time this spring as they continue Lone Star Conference play with a match against Midwestern State.

The Patriots suffered 4-3 and 3-0 losses to Texas A&M-Commerce and West Texas A&M on the road in their first two conference matches of an abbreviated spring schedule and will return home for the first time in 2021. UT Tyler has just four matches left in a shortened 2021 season, three of which will take place on their home field.

LSC OPENERS

UT Tyler opened Lone Star Conference action on Feb. 24 with an offensive slugfest against Texas A&M-Commerce, eventually falling in overtime by a 4-3 final tally. The Patriots scored goals in the first and final five minutes of both halves in a match that featured 23 shot on goal attempts between the two squads.

Shaylee Anaya, Sydnee Garner and Sarah Flannelly were the goal scores for the Patriots in the match. Anaya, Jordan Colbert, Kiersten Ehler and Sydnee Garner all led the way with three shot attempts for the squad.

That offensive output wasn't as high for UT Tyler in Canyon, Texas in a 3-0 loss at the hands of West Texas A&M on Mar. 3. UT Tyler registered eight shots as a team in the match.

A LOOK AT THE STANDINGS

DBU, Texas A&M-Commerce and West Texas A&M all sit atop the Patriot's division with six points apiece, both sitting with a record of 2-0. UT Tyler, Midwestern State and Oklahoma Christian haven't registered any conference points up to this point, making this week's match for UT Tyler against Midwestern State extremely important if the Patriots hope to jump back into the mix of a potential postseason tournament berth.

SCOUTING THE MUSTANGS

Midwestern State will be looking for their first win of the 2021 spring schedule on Wednesday after opening with losses at home to Central Oklahoma and Dallas Baptist, and on the road against West Texas A&M. The Mustangs have been outscored by a 6-2 margin in those two LSC games against West Texas A&M and Dallas Baptist.

Valentina Carvajal and Nicole Marsolek have scored the two goals for the Mustangs on the season while Kelly Cannistra has been in on the assist for both of those efforts.

A BALANCED ATTACK

The Patriots have utilized a full-team effort throughout the early stages of the 2021 season as all four UT Tyler goals on the year have been scored by different individuals. Kiersten Ehler, Shaylee Anaya, Sarah Flannelly and Sydnee Garner have all each scored a goal this season.

Ehler leads the team with three points after tacking on an assist in the game against Texas A&M-Commerce, and leads the squad with six total shots on the year.
