Box Score CANYON, TEXAS – The University of Texas at Tyler fell by a 3-2 final against #10 West Texas A&M on the road in Canyon on Saturday afternoon.
UT Tyler held the lead twice throughout the match, but conceded a pair of West Texas A&M goals less than 10 minutes apart in the 58
th and 66
th minutes to drop just their second decision of the 2022 season. Senior
Jordan Colbert scored less than five minutes into the match, and sophomore
Faith Adje gave UT Tyler a second lead in the 55
th minute to provide the two goals for the Patriots on the afternoon.
Colbert's goal just 3:47 into the game gave UT Tyler a 1-0 lead for less than a minute as West Texas A&M answered right back with their own score in the fifth minute. That 1-1 tie held through the rest of the 40 minutes of action in the first half.
Adje redirected a deflected ball in the Lady Buff box to give UT Tyler a second one-goal lead on the afternoon in the 55
th minute. That 2-1 advantage held less than five minutes as West Texas A&M scored off of consecutive corner opportunities in the 58
th and 66
th minutes to flip the lead into their favor, 3-2.
Junior
Sydnee Garner had the best chance to net the equalizer after West Texas A&M jumped ahead, firing a clean strike from just outside the box in the 73
rd minute that was saved by Lady Buff keeper Reagan Heelan.
The match was largely even throughout, as UT Tyler posted seven attempts on net and held the final shot total advantage by a 14-to-13 margin. West Texas A&M was able to put eight attempts on net, including the two biggest efforts off of corner opportunities that flipped the advantage in their favor.
Garner led the Patriots with four shots on the afternoon, three of which made their way on target.
UT Tyler falls to 6-2-2 on the year and 1-2-2 in Lone Star Conference play with their only losses coming on the road against top-10 nationally-ranked opponents in #1 DBU and #10 West Texas A&M.
The Patriots will return home next Saturday for a 2 p.m. match up against Lubbock Christian.
