A LOOK BACK

The Patriots took on a pair of strong teams in #18 Midwestern State and Lubbock Christian last week but fell on the wrong side of one-goal differences in each match. The offense for UT Tyler kicked into gear in both matches, outshooting both teams by a combined 27-16 margin and posting a 9-7 advantage in shots on goal. The Patriots have started to find their stride yet again as they look to jump back into contention in the LSC race.

WHAT COACH JONES IS SAYING

On the tight conference race: "Conference is tough, and we knew that going in and it's getting tougher. It's become harder and harder, especially on the road. Learning a lot through that process and at the same time the only thing we can do is keep fighting."

On the quest for a postseason berth: "We are going to prepare and plan to win. We will not give up and have self-doubt. We will make whatever push we need to make and it's not over until it's over. That is a trend that we do not give up and through all my years that is the one way I know to get in is to keep fighting."

Thoughts on the opponents this week: "The effort is good for us, it is now just about the execution. If it's zero goals, we need zero goals against. If we need to score one or two goals, we need to score one or two goals. Our mentality has to match what we desire."

STILL TIME LEFT

The Patriots currently sit in 10th place in the Lone Star Conference standings with one point through five games. The Patriots have arguably had one of the toughest schedules in the conference, and with four games left the Patriots still have a solid chance of making the LSC Tournament.

UT Tyler will play Eastern New Mexico, Texas A&M International, St. Mary's, and DBU in the final four games of the regular season. They will need strong performances in each of those games to potentially snag a spot in the six team LSC tournament.

AROUND THE LONE STAR CONFERENCE

St. Mary's holds control over the conference standings after getting out to a 4-0-1 record in their first five games. Lubbock Christian comes in at number two, and they are followed by West Texas A&M, DBU, and Oklahoma Christian to round out the top five. UT Permian Basin sits in sixth and currently holds the final spot in the LSC tournament at 2-2-1.

SERIES HISTORY

UT Tyler and Eastern New Mexico have met just once all time and that came back on October 5, 2019. The two teams battled to a 0-0 draw into double overtime. Standout goalkeeper Parker O'Quinn recorded 11 total saves in the contest to keep the Greyhounds off the board.

SCOUTING OUT THE GREYHOUNDS

Eastern New Mexico's men's soccer program is newly revitalized after being discontinued in the spring of 2021. The Greyhounds are enjoying a solid season in which they are 4-6-1 in their first year back into competition. The best win of the year for Eastern New Mexico came back on October 5 as they took down #8 Midwestern State in Portales, New Mexico by a score of 1-0.

Two different Greyhounds lead the team in goals, as both Jaime Oliva and Ben Sauerländer each have scored three. In the assist category, Oliva leads the program with three, and also leads with nine points.

Coaching the Greyhounds is Brandon Misuraca. Misuraca previously served as the head coach for Oklahoma Panhandle State University. Misuraca served as the first head coach in program history for the Aggies and led them to a 23-17-9 record in three seasons.

NEXT ON THE SLATE

Next up following Eastern New Mexico will be a second consecutive home contest for the Patriots as they will play host to Texas A&M International on Saturday at 7 p.m. That contest will also serve as International Spotlight Day, Blue Out, and Alumni Day for UT Tyler men's soccer.
