RIGHT IN THE HUNT
The UT Tyler women's soccer team enters the final four games of their 2022 regular season schedule in a tie for seventh place with 10 points in the Lone Star Conference regular season standings. The top seven teams in the final standings will advance to the 2022 Lone Star Conference Women's Soccer Championships on Nov. 1-6. UT Tyler was able to keep pace in the conference race with a result in Saturday's 1-1 tie against Angelo State on their home pitch. Both teams combined for just six shots in the opening half, and then each picked up the pace by a noticeable margin in what turned into an electric final half of play. SeniorÂ
Jordan Colbert scored her second penalty kick goal in as many games less than two minutes coming out of the halftime break to provide the scoring for the Patriots. Angelo State responded less than five minutes later with a goal on what stood as one of their few chances on the afternoon on a deflected free kick in the box that was chipped over the head of UT Tyler keeperÂ
Camri Cecil. Cecil and the Patriot defense was otherwise sound throughout the match, as Cecil was credited with seven saves despite truly facing a quality chance from the Rambelles.
WHAT COACH WEBB IS SAYING
On her team's great performance to earn a much-needed point towards the league standings... "Everybody in the conference is battling it out right now to get their points. I thought our performance on Saturday was one of our best on the year in terms of the courage we had to play with and the brand we had to play with against a really good Angelo State team. I think we learned alot from our Wednesday match against Texas Woman's that carried into Saturday."
On Jordan Colbert and the rest of the midfield's outstanding play as of late... "Jordan's been incredible this year. First of all she's been an amazing leader and has really stepped up and taken control of the leadership side of this team. As a player she has been dictating the way that we play in the midfield for every game, but I really feel like she has found her rhythm as of late. We've changed our shape just a little bit in the last couple of weeks and so the midfield is starting to figure each other out. Start to finish, I thought we were collectively really good in the middle part of the field."
On staying focused on the controllables over the next four matches... "We can't worry about the conference standings right now. We have to get better. We have St. Edward's at home who has historically been one of the top teams in this conference and then we have Midwestern State on the road who has historically been a great team in this conference so at the end of the day we have stuff that we have to take care of and get really dialed into our match-ups. The conference standings, you look at it and it's going to come down to the very last game and the very last point, but those aren't things that we can control. We just have to get better and get ready for Wednesday."
THE MATCH UP
St. Edward's enters Wednesday's match with an overall record of 8-3-3 on the year and 4-2-2 in Lone Star Conference play. The Hilltoppers sit in a tie for fourth place in the LSC standings with 14 points in conference play, but have not secured a win in the last four outings. St. Edward's holds an 8-to-4 goal differential in conference play, but haven't scored in any of their last four games. Julia Speilmann and Katie Gay lead St. Edward's with four goals scored on the year. The two sides have met twice, both times in Austin, Texas, with UT Tyler having won the most recent meeting back on Oct. 27th by a 1-0 final. The all-time series sits at 1-1 after St. Edward's win in the inaugural meeting back on Oct. 24th, 2019.Â
THE FIRST PLAYER OF THE WEEK
UT Tyler seniorÂ
Jordan Colbert was named the Lone Star Conference Women's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week for her role in the team's 1-1 draws against Texas Woman's and Angelo State. Colbert becomes the first women's soccer representative from UT Tyler to earn a Player of the Week designation from the Lone Star Conference. The Allen, Texas native scored the lone Patriot goal in each contest to secure a vital point towards the Lone Star Conference standings in each match. Both goals came via penalty kicks for Colbert to notch her third and fourth goals of the 2022 season and provided UT Tyler the scoring they needed to pick up a result in both matches. Colbert provided the cross that led to the foul inside the Texas Woman's box on Wednesday, and helped lead a Patriot offense throughout the week that outshot their opposition by an 11-to-10 margin.
A LOOK AT THE STANDINGS
As mentioned, the Lone Star Conference standings and the battle for one of the seven spots in the LSC Postseason Tournament are far from settled, and will simply come down to which side can keep pace in the race for points over the last few weeks of the regular season.
Â
A SPARKLING HOME RECORD
UT Tyler women's soccer is now 7-0-2 on the year on their home pitch at the Citizen's 1st Bank-Perkins Soccer Complex following the 1-1 tie against Angelo State. The Patriots have outscored opponents 23-to-6 on their home field, and have outshot their opposition by a 177-to-63 margin as well. Alvarado has scored all seven of her goals at home.
AN EVEN MONTH OF OCTOBER
The month of October has been a stretch of closely contested, tough matches for the Patriots. UT Tyler is 1-1-2 over the last few weeks in the month of October in matches that have all come against teams within the top seven of the LSC standings, including a pair of teams in West Texas A&M and Angelo State that are associated with the United Soccer Coaches National Top 25 poll. The four games have been as even statistically speaking as possible, as the Patriots are dead square in goal differential at 5-to-5, hold a slight 49-to-44 advantage in the shot column, and have maintained a level of physicality in each match as the foul count sits 48-to-47 over the last four games. Just one dominate performance in which UT Tyler can come away with a win and three points over the next four matches would be crucial as the level of play across the LSC has simply been outstanding as the late stages of the regular season are well underway.

THE BEST START IN PROGRAM HISTORY

The Patriots outscored their non-conference competition by a 19-to-4 margin. UT Tyler completed the 2015 season with an undefeated regular season record, but tied in the fourth game of the season, officially making the 2022 start to the season the best in program history.
