A CRUCIAL THREE POINTS
Wednesday night saw the Patriots put it all together on both sides of the ball in a dominant 3-0 victory over Eastern New Mexico.
Malte Andres connected on his second goal of the season after a pair of beautiful passes from
Brajdi Cekrezi and
Sergio Sola. The scoring continued with a
Lukas Paulun goal from a rebound off of a Sola shot, and Andres would cap off the night with his third goal of the season off of another rebound from a Sola shot.
The clean sheet and 3-0 victory gives the Patriots three key points as the conference begins to set its sights on the LSC tournament and beyond.
AROUND THE LONE STAR CONFERENCE
Wednesday night's schedule across the LSC saw several games make big impacts in the LSC tournament race. St. Mary's came away with a 2-0 victory over Midwestern State, DBU took down Oklahoma Christian 2-0, Lubbock Christian defeated Texas A&M International 2-1, and West Texas A&M and UT Permian Basin played to a 1-1 draw.
With just three games left, St. Mary's holds the top spot, and holds off Lubbock Christian, DBU, and West Texas A&M who round out the top four. UT Permian Basin is fifth, followed by Oklahoma Christian and Midwestern State. Texas A&M International sits just behind, followed by UT Tyler and Eastern New Mexico.
PLENTY TO PLAY FOR
The Patriots hold at four points with three games remaining, but the three remaining games are all against opponents ahead of them in the standings. After the Saturday night contest against the Dustdevils, the Patriots will travel to St. Mary's next Wednesday and then host DBU at home.
Results are all but necessary at this point if the Patriots want to make a run at qualifying for the LSC tournament, and victories in those games would go a long way in deciding who would make it into the tournament.
SERIES HISTORY
The Patriots and Dustdevils have met five times all-time and have already played once this season. Back on September 21
st, Texas A&M International gave UT Tyler their first defeat of the season, a 2-0 shutout that saw two second half goals provide all of the difference.
That game was played in Laredo, Texas, while this week's matchup will be back in Tyler. The Patriots are 3-0 all time in games played on their home turf, and those include victories of 4-3, 1-0, and 2-0.
SCOUTING OUT THE DUSTDEVILS
Texas A&M International rolls into Saturday's contest at 3-6-6 overall and 1-3-2 in LSC competition. Their lone conference win is a 1-0 victory over then #18 ranked Midwestern State on October 15
th. Their two ties are against West Texas A&M and Oklahoma Christian.
On the statistics side, the Dustdevils rank 10
th in the LSC in scoring average, and they rank sixth in opponents average scoring. Lassana Diakite leads the team with four goals and nine points. Tajani Fairclough also has nine points with three goals and three assists and also leads the team in total shots with 27.
Claudio Arias is head coach of the Dustdevils and is in the middle of his 16
th season with the program. Arias is also four years into his tenure as Director of Soccer Operations. Over his 16 seasons, Arias has led the Dustdevils to three Heartland Conference Championships and most recently led the program to the NCAA Tournament in 2019.
NEXT ON THE SLATE
Next up for UT Tyler following this weekend's game will be a pivotal road trip to San Antonio, Texas to take on St. Mary's. That will be the final road contest of the year for UT Tyler as they will take on the current Lone Star Conference leaders.
Following that contest the Patriots will have their final regular season match of the year as they host DBU next Saturday. That will be an all-Patriots match with potentially plenty to play for as far as seeding for the LSC tournament.
