UT Tyler Volleyball Included in Initial South Central Regional Rankings

TYLER, TEXAS – The University of Texas at Tyler volleyball team was included as one of 10 teams from the South Central Region under consideration for the NCAA Division II National Volleyball Tournament.
 
The first edition of the rankings comprise of 10 teams under consideration for the NCAA Division II Volleyball National Tournament from the South Central Region, listed in alphabetical order as opposed to by rankings. Wednesday's rankings are the first of three editions that will be announced by the NCAA selection committee prior to the announcement of the national tournament field on Sunday, Nov. 13th via an online selection show.
 
The winners of the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) and Lone Star Conference (LSC) Postseason Tournaments will receive the two available automatic qualifying bids into the tournament, while the final six teams of the eight-team South Central Regional Tournament field will be at-large bids determined by the NCAA selection committee.
 
That South Central Regional Tournament is scheduled for Nov. 17-19 at the no. 1 seed's host site.
 
UT Tyler is one of five representatives from the Lone Star Conference to appear in the initial regional rankings alongside West Texas A&M, DBU, Texas A&M International and Texas A&M-Kingsville. MSU Denver, Colorado Mesa, Regis, Colorado School of Mines and CSU-Pueblo all represent the RMAC in the rankings.
 
The Patriots have positioned themselves for a return to the South Central Regional Tournament after earning an at-large bid into last year's field and the no. 6 seed. UT Tyler upset no. 3 seeded Colorado Mesa in the quarterfinal round last fall by a 3-1 margin before falling to eventual South Central Regional Champions West Texas A&M by the same final tally in the semifinals.
 
UT Tyler has five matches remaining on the 2022 regular season schedule, beginning this evening on the road at UAFS at 6 p.m. The Patriots currently sit in a tie for fifth place in the LSC standings with a league record of 8-3 alongside Texas A&M-Kingsville and will be vying for seeding over the next two weeks for the 2022 Lone Star Conference Postseason Tournament scheduled for Nov. 10-12 at the no. 1 seed's host site.
