TYLER, TEXAS – The University of Texas at Tyler men's basketball team continued to rise in the D2SIDA South Central Region rankings on Monday afternoon into the no. 5 spot of the poll.
UT Tyler moved up three spots to no. 5 after receiving 32 votes in the fourth edition of the poll voted upon by Sports Information Directors from the South Central Region. The Patriots began Lone Star Conference play last week with victories over Cameron and Midwestern State, and are off to a second-straight 5-0 start to the year.
The Patriots appeared in 10 straight editions of the D2SIDA South Central Regional Rankings last season, and rose to as high as no. 3 back on Dec. 13
th, 2021. UT Tyler appeared at no. 8 and no. 9 in the first two editions of the 2021-22 NCAA South Central Regional Rankings at season's end as well.
UT Tyler has elevated their positioning in the weekly poll in two straight weeks after debuting in the second edition of the rankings. The Patriots are the only remaining undefeated team in the Lone Star Conference with a perfect 5-0 record, and are the second highest ranked team from the LSC in this week's D2SIDA South Central Region rankings behind West Texas A&M (no. 3).
Six teams from the LSC received a spot in this week's edition of the poll including UT Tyler and West Texas A&M as Angelo State (no. 7), St. Edward's (no. 7), Lubbock Christian (no. 9) and Dallas Baptist (no. 10) all appeared within the top 10 of the region this week.
Black Hills State remained atop of the regional poll after receiving all six first-place votes, and leads the three representatives from the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) ranked within in the top five.
UT Tyler will finish their non-conference schedule this weekend on Saturday at 3 p.m. against Dallas Christian before returning to Lone Star Conference play on the road over the next two weeks.
