REP THE ROSE NIGHT
UT Tyler will host Rep the Rose Night on Thursday night, welcoming all citizens of Tyler to help back the Patriots in their first home contest of the new year. All Tyler citizens will get free admission with ID, along with all Smith County employees, City of Tyler employees, Tyler Chamber of Commerce members, Tyler Young Professionals Network, South Tyler Rotary Club, Rotary Club of Tyler, and Sunrise Rotary Club members.
There will be free shirts given away, and a raffle drawing will take place to win a free night out at local Tyler businesses.
SOUTHSIDE BANK CUSTOMER APPRECIATION NIGHT
UT Tyler will host Southside Bank Customer Appreciation Night on Saturday, welcoming all employees and customers of Southside Bank to receive free admission along with all employee families. Additionally, the Patriots will have the ring ceremony for the 2025 Division II National Championship softball team at halftime of the men's game and there will be a t-shirt giveaway.
PATRIOTS NOTES AND TRENDS
- UT Tyler finished the 2024–25 season 8–20 overall and 5–17 in Lone Star Conference play, but the Patriots were competitive throughout the year with 12 games decided by 10 points or fewer.
- Last season the Patriots went 5–10 on their home floor, 3–8 on the road, and 0–2 at neutral sites. UT Tyler finished non-conference play with a 3–3 record.
- Of the 12 games decided by 10 points or fewer, the Patriots were within a single possession in the final minutes in a handful of those contests and held second-half leads in several.
- UT Tyler returns four athletes from last year, including LSC Male Athletic Performance Athlete of the Year Sam Phipps, along with Hudson Anderson, Patrick Carr, and Mate Kapanadze.
- The Patriots add four junior college transfers—Chris Carpenter, Xavier Williams, Sean Emfinger, and Kyle Morgan—each arriving from strong JUCO programs and bringing toughness, size, and proven winning habits.
- Transfer guard Boston Caldwell joins the Patriots after producing at both the junior college and Division III levels and is expected to contribute immediately.
- A strong group of Australian newcomers also joins the roster, including freshmen Noah Suarjaya, Heath Tenner, and Spencer Gaze, along with Greg Fowlds and Jacob Bell. The group is expected to boost the team's shooting, depth, and overall skill level.
- The Patriots are 7-4 to start the year while shooting 48.4% from the field and 32% from deep while grabbing 40.1 rebounds per game and forcing 14.2 turnovers per game.
- Kyle Morgan leads the Patriots with 11.5 points per game on 48.9% shooting and continues to be the team's top perimeter threat with 22 threes at a 44.9% clip. Sam Phipps controls the interior with 7.4 rebounds per game and a team-best 16 blocks and adding 15 steals, while Noah Suarjaya steers the offense with a 33-to-21 assist-to-turnover ratio.
THE MUSTANGS
Western New Mexico heads into Thursday's matchup at 9-3 on the year and 3-2 in LSC play.
The Mustangs are scoring 81.0 points per game while allowing 76.3 to their opponents. They are shooting 46.6% from the floor and 33.0% from deep while allowing 42.7% from the floor and 29.1% from deep. Individually, Cortaviaus Seales leads the team at 17.4 points per game on 51.4% shooting while chipping in 45 assists and 16 steals.
