UT Tyler Men’s Basketball Adds San Miguel, Tenorio to Coaching Staff

Karleskint Announces Key Additions Ahead of 2026–27 Season

TYLER, TEXAS – UT Tyler men's basketball head coach Doug Karleskint has announced the addition of Cody San Miguel as Associate Head Coach and Ezequeil Tenorio as Assistant Coach ahead of the 2026–27 season.

San Miguel brings a wealth of experience at both the Division I and II levels, including recent success at UT Arlington. During his three seasons with the Mavericks, the program totaled 51 wins and posted an impressive 30-11 record at home. UT Arlington reached the Western Athletic Conference Tournament Championship game in 2024 and advanced to the semifinals in 2026.

In the 2025–26 season, San Miguel helped guide a defensive unit that allowed just 66.7 points per game, ranking 23rd nationally and first in the WAC. The Mavericks also led the nation in three-point field goal percentage defense, holding opponents to just 26.7% shooting from beyond the arc.

"I'm honored to step into this role at UT Tyler," said San Miguel. "Coach Karleskint is a great coach and I'm excited to get to work with him again. We are going to build a great winning program."

Prior to UT Arlington, San Miguel held coaching roles at Central Missouri, Texas, Air Force, and Talladega College. He also served as a graduate assistant at Texas State and spent two seasons as a head coach at Hill Country Christian School. A Texas native, San Miguel is a former U.S. Marine Corps infantry team leader and holds both his bachelor's and master's degrees from Texas State.

Tenorio joins the Patriots after most recently serving as an assistant coach at Clarendon College, where he was heavily involved in scouting, recruiting, player development, and day-to-day program operations.

"I'm incredibly grateful for the opportunity to join The University of Texas at Tyler," said Tenorio. "This is a special place, and I'm excited to get to work, build relationships, and contribute to something bigger than myself."

Before his time at Clarendon, Tenorio coached at Fort Scott Community College and served as a graduate assistant at Central Missouri, where he utilized advanced analytics tools such as Synergy, Hudl, and FastScout. He began his career at Texas State as Head Student Manager, gaining valuable experience in operations and logistics while being part of a conference championship program.

In addition to his collegiate experience, Tenorio has worked with the Texas Impact grassroots program, strengthening his recruiting network and player evaluation at the high school level. He holds a master's degree in Sports Management from Central Missouri and a bachelor's degree in Exercise and Sports Science from Texas State.

"I'm excited to have Cody and Zeque here at UT Tyler," said Karleskint. "They bring a lot of energy and experience that will help push a winning program and culture."

With the additions of San Miguel and Tenorio, the Patriots look ahead to the 2026–27 season with momentum.
