Box Score DALLAS, TEXAS – UT Tyler hung tough but SMU proved to be just too much as they took the afternoon midweek battle by a score of 7-0.
The Mustangs took home the midweek battle, but the Patriots were able to make it tough on them as they battled closely in multiple matches.
In the doubles portion of the contest, SMU was able to take the first two matches and head to the singles portion of the match with a 1-0 lead.
Gonzalo Fernandez Gil and
Moritz Mayer paired up in the #1 doubles slot, but fell by a close score of 6-4.
In the #2 doubles slot,
Joaquin Bianchi and
Jonas Dixon forced an extra game to take them down, but ultimately fell by a score of 7-5. In the #3 doubles slot,
Jorge Sala Frigeri and
Leon Sell took the lead in their match by a score of 6-5, but the match was unfinished due to the Mustangs claiming the two matches necessary for the point.
In singles, multiple Patriots forced the Mustangs to work for their victories as they extended their matches.
Yudai Watanabe forced a tough third set after splitting the first two sets with Callaway Clark by scores of 3-6, 6-3. In the third and final set, it was Clark who took the set by a score of 6-3 and claimed victory.
Jonas Dixon was the other Patriot to force a third set. Taking on Alex Stafford, Dixon won the first set 6-3, but fell by a score of 7-5 in the second set. Dixon fought hard in the third set, but it was Stafford who ultimately took the tiebreaker by a score of 10-8.
Mayer also battled tough in his match in the #3 singles slot. Huntley Allen was the man who matched up against Mayer from SMU, and claimed the first set by a score of 6-4. Mayer battled back and ultimately forced a tiebreaker, but Allen claimed the set 7-6. That gave the Mustangs their fourth and final point necessary for the victory.
Next up for UT Tyler is the final non-conference match of the season as they will take on Auburn Montgomery on Friday. That match is set to begin at 1 p.m. and will feature both the men's and women's programs as they play their final matches before the LSC slate begins.
