UT Tyler Volleyball Earns Second Straight Team Academic Award

TYLER, TEXAS – The University of Texas at Tyler volleyball program has been recognized for a second consecutive year by the American Volleyball Coaches Association with the USMC/AVCA Team Academic Award.

The award honors volleyball teams that maintain a year-long grade point average of 3.30 on a scale of 4.10 or a 5.0 scale. UT Tyler is one of over 1,200 collegiate and high school teams honored with the award that dates back to 1992-93.

"I am so proud of the team for earning this award," Head coach Lyndsay Mashe said. "They work hard to be successful on the court as well as in the classroom. It takes a lot of dedication to be a student-athlete and this team continues to put in the work."

The 2022 award is the second straight year in which the program garnered the team academic award from their national organization after receiving the 2021 version last summer.

The Patriots went 20-4 during the 2021 season and earned the program's first qualification into the NCAA Division II National Volleyball Tournament at season's end. UT Tyler defeated Colorado Mesa by a 3-1 final in the first round of the NCAA South Central Regional Tournament, and was one of three Lone Star Conference teams to finish the season ranked within the final top 25 of the AVCA Division II Coaches Top 25 Poll.
