ROSTER SCHEDULE STATS

THE BEST START IN PROGRAM HISTORY

The UT Tyler women's soccer team made it five straight victories to open up the 2022 season last weekend with 3-1 victories over Ouachita Baptist and Harding. The Patriots are 5-0 for the first time in the 22 years of the program, and completed their non-conference schedule with an undefeated record. UT Tyler completed the 2015 season with an undefeated regular season record, but tied in the fourth game of the season, officially making the 2022 start to the season the best in program history.

WHAT COACH WEBB IS SAYING

On her reaction to the program's historic start...
"I was actually surprised because we've had a history of some great teams in this program. So to start off and break that already is pretty impressive. The season's are kind of segmented for you, so "preseason" is now officially over and all the fun begins on Wednesday."

On the work it took throughout the transition to make this start possible... "We talk alot about how at the end of the day we have believed in this team for the last three years. This is a culmination of the work we have put in in training and in the film room, as well just the individual development. To be really honest, the resilience and toughness that we've gained over the last couple of years knowing how to win games in this conference has gained us confidence."

On the opening week of Lone Star Conference play... "I couldn't script it any better if I tried. You go 5-0 and build some confidence and then you go to the no. 1 team in the country to play in their home. We're gonna go out just like we have every other game and play our brand and try and attack the game and see what happens."

ANOTHER DOMINANT WEEKEND

UT Tyler put together two more convincing wins to extend their win streak to five in 3-1 victories over Ouachita Baptist and Harding last weekend. Seniors Cephana Deane and Samaris Alvarado both found the back of the net in the first 25 minutes of the match and freshman Melissa Olliveira provided the insurance goal in the 72nd minute on Thursday night against Ouachita Baptist. The Patriots out-shot the Tigers by a 20-to-9 final tally. That control continued on Saturday afternoon in the 3-1 win over Harding as UT Tyler outshot the Lady Bisons by a 21-to-3 margin. Senior Edina Cakic scored less than 15 minutes into the game and then freshman Brooke Mullins made it 2-1 just before the halftime break with a goal in the 39th minute. Alvarado made it five goals in five games for the Houston, Texas native in the 54th minute with the final score of the weekend for the Patriots.

THE MATCH UP

DBU stayed in the no. 1 spot of the latest United Soccer Coaches NCAA Division II Women's Top 25 Poll for the second straight week after wrapping up their non-conference schedule last week with a 4-0 record. The Patriots have lost just one regular season Lone Star Conference match since joining the league back in 2019, and reached the NCAA Division II Women's Soccer Final Four last season after totaling a record of 20-4 on the year. DBU is under the direction of first-year head coach Marcus Wood, who took over the program after serving as the head coach at Hardin-Simmons University for 22 seaons. DBU has outscored their opponents by a 12-to-4 margin so far in 2022, and is led by Angelina Olmos and Annie Severide in points with five.

IN THE REGIONAL RANKINGS

UT Tyler entered the United Soccer Coaches NCAA Division II South Central Regional Poll for the first time this week in the no. 9 spot. The fast start has elevated the program squarely into position as one of the region's top sides evidenced by the first appearance for the Patriots in the regional poll. DBU sits in the no. 1 spot as one of three Lone Star Conference teams ranked within the top five alongside West Texas A&M (no. 2) and Angelo State (no. 5). St. Mary's (no. 6) and St. Edward's (no. 7) rounded out the members in the top five and UT Tyler as the LSC representatives in the poll.

AT THE TOP OF THE NATIONAL STAT LEADERS

Seniors Jordan Colbert, Edina Cakic and junior Sydnee Garner have each netted a pair of goals, while 12 different Patriots have notched an assist for the nation's second best side in terms of assists per game (3.60). UT Tyler's scoring offense ranks sixth in the country with an average of 3.80 goals per game.

ALVARADO IS ALL OVER THE PLACE

Senior Samaris Alvarado has made an immediate impact for UT Tyler in her first season for the Patriots after transferring from Quincy University, and leads the squad with 11 points so far in 2022. Alvarado has scored a goal in all five games this season, and is tied for the team lead with 18 shot attempts thus far. The Houston, Texas native ranks fifth in the LSC with an average of 2.20 points per game, and has totaled the fifth amount of points so far this year in the conference.

COACH WEBB

Head coach Stefani Webb is in her 18th season as head coach of the Patriots and has accumulated a 195-86-20 overall record along the way. Webb led the Patriots to 10 or more wins in every season during the Division III era of the program from 2005-2018, culminating in NCAA Division III National Tournament bids in both 2014 and 2015. Webb holds a career record of 285-132-27 after serving eight seasons as the head coach at the University of Dallas from 1997-2004.
