HOLDING THEIR OWN

The UT Tyler women's soccer team opened up their 2022 Lone Star Conference schedule on Wednesday night in Dallas at #1 DBU with a 1-0 loss. After a quick start to the game for DBU including the deciding goal in the 17th minute, the rest of the match was largely a balanced contest between the two sides. That was a stark contrast in efforts when comparing the previous outputs for UT Tyler against the three-time defending LSC Regular Season Champions in which DBU outscored the Patriots by a 10-to-1 margin in the previous four outings in LSC play. Junior Alexia Moreira had all three shot on goal attempts for the Patriots, who saw their five-game winning streak to open 2022 snapped in the LSC opener.

WHAT COACH WEBB IS SAYING

On the team's performance on Wednesday against DBU... "I thought it was a hard fought game against a really great opponent that we came up a little short in. I felt like our mentality was great, to go against a top team in the country and compete as hard as we did. I thought offensively we created some really great opportunities for ourselves and our defense was spectacular."

On the outlook for the mental side of returning to winning form on Saturday... "We're in the Lone Star Conference, so every single game in our conference is hard. We said from the beginning of the this year that we were going to take things one game at a time, one day at a time, and that's literally what we're doing. We have to get better today to play a really good opponent on Saturday."

THE MATCH UP

UT Tyler holds a 2-0 all-time advantage over UT Permian Basin and have outscored the Falcons by an 8-0 margin in those victories. UT Tyler claimed a 5-0 win last year in Odessa, Texas, and defeated the Falcons in a 3-0 final in the match back in 2019 in Tyler.

UT Permian Basin began their 2022 LSC schedule on Thursday night with a 2-1 loss against Lubbock Christian to move the program's overall record to 2-2-1 on the year. The Falcons are 0-2-1 in their last three outings after starting the year with 4-0 and 1-0 wins over the University of the Southwest and Sul Ross State. UT Permian Basin is led offensively by senior Kaylee Overmeyer, who leads the team with five goals on the year. The Falcons are under the direction of first year head coach Carla Tejas, who joined the program after completing her career at Louisiana Christian College.

St. Mary's (no. 6) and St. Edward's (no. 7) rounded out the members in the top five and UT Tyler as the LSC representatives in the poll.
