A FUN OPENING NIGHT

UT Tyler women's soccer opened up the 20th season in program history in style last Thursday night with a 4-1 win over Texas A&M-Texarkana. The Patriots scored three first half goals and cruised to the decisive win, outshooting the Eagles by a 23-to-5 final tally. Sydnee Garner, Jordan Colbert, Maddie Higgins and Samaris Alvarado all found the back of the net for the Patriots for their first goals of 2022, while Natalie Jones, Kaycee West and Cephana Deane all registered assists on the evening.

WHAT COACH WEBB IS SAYING

On the full-team effort in the win:
"It was alot of fun. I thought we had alot of depth and had no drop-off when we subbed so that is awesome. We scored some absolute bangers, probably some of the top goals that we've scored here in a long time. It was good to see what the girls have been training so hard for put into action."

On the electric opening-night atmosphere: "The crowd was absolutely unreal. I think the ice cream and the popsicles that were there probably helped, but with the drumline there, the cheer team being there, it really was absolutely electric. Our parents that come to alot of games said that it was probably one of the best games they've been to so it was alot of fun for them to be apart of that and see excitement. Our players soaked in every bit of it."

On the difference she hopes to see in the team this weekend: "We're still in the building phase, we brought in alot of new players, alot of players are returning from injuries, so we're still trying to figure out exactly what it is that we want to be able to showcase. We have alot of weapons, but trying to figure out which lines they go in, we'll be trying to figure that out this weekend. At the same time, these are games that you have to go after and try and win."

PROMOTIONS

Saturday afternoon will serve as the annual Youth Game for the program, with youth soccer players across the region encouraged to attend and take part in the day's festivities. Halftime will feature a t-shirt toss courtesy of the UT Tyler spirit squad and "Swoop", as well as a postgame autograph session with the team. Those taking part in the autograph session are asked to head to the flagpole on the southside of the field after the completion of play, where fans will be given exculsive team pictures to have signed by the UT Tyler women's soccer players and coaches.

THE MATCH UP

UT Tyler and Rogers State will meet for the first time in either program's history on Saturday afternoon. The Hillcats, under the direction of first-year head coach Chris Jones, began their season with a pair of shutout victories last weekend. Rogers State defeated William Jewell by a 4-0 final last Thursday night, and then turned around on Sunday afternoon and blanked Sioux Falls by a 2-1 final tally. Rogers State battled to a 3-1 draw at #3 DBU on Thursday night to enter Saturday's match-up with UT Tyler at 2-1. Maggie Brown and Delana King both registered a pair of goals on the weekend, whiile keeper Tiffany Brittan posted two clean sheets and three saves in the wins.

ANOTHER FAST START

UT Tyler began with a win in 2022 in the first of five straight home games at Citizens 1st Bank-Perkins Soccer Complex last week. The Patriots are looking to replicate the same solid start that the program executed last season. The 2021 Patriots began the year with consecutive shutout wins against Harding and Louisiana State-Alexandria, and then secured their first LSC win of the season a few weeks later to begin the season with a 3-1 record.

COACH WEBB

Head coach Stefani Webb began her 18th season as head coach of the UT Tyler women's soccer program on Thursday night, and has accumulated a 191-86-20 overall record along the way. Webb led the Patriots to 10 or more wins in every season during the Division III era of the program from 2005-2018, culminating in NCAA Division III National Tournament bids in both 2014 and 2015. Webb holds a career record of 281-132-27 after serving eight seasons as the head coach at the University of Dallas from 1997-2004.

A LONG LIST OF OPTIONS

An impressive number of 25 field players saw game action for UT Tyler in the season opening win over Texas A&M-Texarkana, including a slew of attacking options that generated numerous scoring chances throughout the evening. With six different Patriots registering a goal, and an additional three contributing an assist on the goals, seven different players notched their first point of the 2022 season on Thursday night. Garner led the team with a total of five shots in just over 50 minutes of playing time, while newcomers Alvarado and Alexia Moreira both paced the squad with three attempts on goal.

A LOADED LEAGUE ONCE AGAIN

UT Tyler will need to stay on top of their game early and often in 2022 as nine different Lone Star Conference sides survived the opening weekend of play across the Division II women's soccer landscape without a loss. Five of those teams began the year 2-0, while three LSC teams (#3 DBU, #25 Angelo State (RV) West Texas A&M) were associated with the USCCA NCAA Division II Top 25 Poll.

PRESEASON RANKINGS

The UT Tyler women's soccer program received 171 points in the 2022 Lone Star Conference Women's Soccer Preseason Poll to appear as no. 9 in the poll. DBU will enter 2022 as the preseason favorites in the LSC, earning 434 total points and 24 first-place votes to come in at no. 1 ahead of Angelo State. Angelo State earned 388 total points and 10 first-place votes, while just five points separated no. 3 West Texas A&M (368) and no. 4 Midwestern State (363).
