WRAPPING UP WEEK ONE OF CONFERENCE PLAY

Senior Samaris Alvarado secured the first win of the 2022 Lone Star Conference schedule for UT Tyler last Saturday with the game winning goal in the 78th minute to help the Patriots defeat UT Permian Basin by a 2-1 final score. Alvarado's sixth goal of the 2022 season came via a pass from freshman Brooke Mullins after Mullins stole away a Falcon free kick and then found the wide open Alvarado for the game winner. All three goals in the match came in the second half of action as junior Alexia Moreira started what would be a UT Tyler comeback with the equalizing goal in the 72nd minute. The Patriots are now 6-1-0 on the year, with their only loss coming at the hands of #1 DBU on Wednesday night.

WHAT COACH WEBB IS SAYING

On her sides play in the opening week of conference play...
"It was a great week for us. I think the experience of going to the no. 1 team in the country and playing in front of that crowd, it was electric. I thought it was back-and-forth, they owned moments of the game and then we got the momentum back. I thought the confidence that we built in that game was huge and you saw that in the game against UT Permian Basin. I was very proud of us handling our emotional control, sticking to what the game plan was, and getting the win out of it.

On the ever-improving and now effective defensive output... "Our defense was phenomenal. Camri Cecil is playing really well for us in the net and giving us some confidence as we play forward. Our backline has really just connected and we're finally starting to see that the details really do matter. As a result our collective defending, not only our backline, but how we're defending as a group has been tremendous I've thought the last couple of games."

On the team's grade report so far in 2022... " I would say that we're around a B+ right now, but we're just getting started. We trained this morning and it was the best training we've had all year. Just the details that they're starting to see and put together is alot of fun. It's exciting to see where they're at and it's really exciting to see what their ceiling is. As long as they stay hungry about getting better everyday, this group could be really special."

STAYING IN THE REGIONAL RANKINGS

The UT Tyler women's soccer team stayed within the top 10 of the third edition of the United Soccer Coaches South Central Regional rankings this week. The Patriots debuted for the first time as a DIvision II program at no. 9 in last week's edition of the poll, and stayed within the top 10 after beginning the Lone Star Conference schedule with a 1-1 record last week.
