EVERY POINT IS CRITICAL
The UT Tyler women's soccer team leaned on a solid defensive effort last week with a pair of 0-0 ties against Texas A&M International and Oklahoma Christian. The Patriots picked up two points in Lone Star Conference play with the two draws, a pair of results that will prove vital as we approach the midway point of the LSC schedule over the next two weeks. UT Tyler outshot Texas A&M International by a 13-to-7 margin, and relied on three saves from keeper
Camri Cecil to keep the first of what would be two clean sheets for the week. The Patriots then dominated the second half of another defensive battle on their home pitch on Saturday against Oklahoma Christian, and put five shots on target in the second half alone. None of those efforts found the back of the net, but UT Tyler picked up another crucial point yet again thanks to a defensive group that allowed just six shots for the entirety of the match.
WHAT COACH WEBB IS SAYING
On last week's pair of ties... "I thought we really played well after a tough drive to Laredo. We had some key moments that we should have finished, but we just didn't. We were unfortunate to walk out with a 0-0 tie. I thought our best performance on the year was on Saturday. You look at how we rank our team, we were way above our standard in every category other than goals. We had everything going for us, we just could not find a way into the back of the net."
On resetting offensively to capitalize on the wealth of chances... "We are creating incredible scoring chances this year, which we didn't do a year ago. Right now we are setting ourselves up well, but we're just playing tight. They've got to find the fun back in the game because that is when they are just electric. We've gotta find the joy we had at the beginning of the year in just how we attack the goal."
On the challenge of the meeting with West Texas A&M on Saturday... "They are a great team. They play a difficult formation and so we'll have to make some adjustments in terms of tactically how we want to organize against them, but I love our match up. They've got quality across the board."
