A BATTLE TO THE END

UT Tyler moved to 2-0 on the year with a 2-1 victory over Rogers State on Saturday afternoon in a match that was all Patriots for the complete 90 minutes of action. UT Tyler outshot Rogers State by a 25-to-5 final tally, but had to answer an early deficit as the Hillcats scored less than five minutes into the match on their first, and only, shot in the opening half. Senior Samaris Alvarado netted the equalizer in the 36th minute to make it 1-1 at the halftime break, and then assisted Sydnee Garner's game winning goal in the 85th minute to ensure the Patriot's second straight 2-0 start to the year. Alvarado led the Patriots with five shots, three of which were on target, and was the focal point of an offense that created chances early and often against the Hillcats.

WHAT COACH WEBB IS SAYING

On the difference she hopes to see in the team this weekend: "We're still in the building phase, we brought in alot of new players, alot of players are returning from injuries, so we're still trying to figure out exactly what it is that we want to be able to showcase. We have alot of weapons, but trying to figure out which lines they go in, we'll be trying to figure that out this weekend. At the same time, these are games that you have to go after and try and win."

THE MATCH UP

UT Tyler and McPherson College will meet for the first time in either program's history on Monday afternoon. The Bulldogs are 0-2-1 on the year and will be coming off of a 3-1 loss at the hands of Southwest Christian University on Saturday afternoon. The Bulldogs have been outscored by a a 7-to-2 margin in 2022, with their two goals coming from Caitlin Buendia and Isabel Medina.

OFFENSIVE PRESSURE

UT Tyler has quite simply controlled all 180 minutes of their first two matches of the season in 2022 in the wins against Texas A&M-Texarkana and Rogers State, and have been particularly impressive on the offensive side of the field. The Patriots are currently tied with St. Mary's and West Texas A&M with the league lead in shots per game with 24.0 a contest, and have posted shot totals of 23 and 25 in each game.

EVERYBODY GETTING IN THE ACTION

The contributions for the Patriots have come from multiple different faces so far in 2022 as eight different Patriots have recorded a point in the first two matches. Alvarado currently leads the team with a pair of goals and an assist, while Garner has also netted two goals.

COACH WEBB

Head coach Stefani Webb is in her 18th season as head coach of the Patriots and has accumulated a 192-86-20 overall record along the way. Webb led the Patriots to 10 or more wins in every season during the Division III era of the program from 2005-2018, culminating in NCAA Division III National Tournament bids in both 2014 and 2015. Webb holds a career record of 282-132-27 after serving eight seasons as the head coach at the University of Dallas from 1997-2004.

A LOADED LEAGUE ONCE AGAIN

UT Tyler is currently one of eight teams in the Lone Star Conference to stand without a loss so far in 2022, illustrating what is undoubtedly once again one of the best NCAA Division II women's soccer conference's in the country. UT Tyler can join DBU, Texas A&M International and West Texas A&M with 3-0 records with a win on Monday, while St. Mary's currently sits atop the league standings with a perfect 4-0 record.

PRESEASON RANKINGS

The UT Tyler women's soccer program received 171 points in the 2022 Lone Star Conference Women's Soccer Preseason Poll to appear as no. 9 in the poll. DBU will enter 2022 as the preseason favorites in the LSC, earning 434 total points and 24 first-place votes to come in at no. 1 ahead of Angelo State. Angelo State earned 388 total points and 10 first-place votes, while just five points separated no. 3 West Texas A&M (368) and no. 4 Midwestern State (363).
