ON A ROLL

UT Tyler has started their season at 2-0 for the first time since 2016 and look to move to 4-0 for the first time since 2014.The Patriots have outscored their opponents by a count of 11-1 through two contests and have outshot them 57-11. Over half of the UT Tyler shots so far have been on goal, and their offense has been a constant factor in pressuring opposing defenses.

TEAM EFFORT

Through just two games, the Patriots have had six different players net a goal, and an astounding 21 different players have taken a shot thus far. Of those goal scorers, two have separated themselves early with three goals each. Nolan Giles and Lukas Paulun both posted a two goal game against Texas College and then added one more against DBU.

Another huge factor for the Patriots offense has been their ball movement. Of their 11 goals thus far, nine of those goals have come via an assist. Eight different players have already netted an assist, and Thato Meko leads the pack with two.

WHAT COACH JONES IS SAYING

On the big win over DBU on Saturday: "It really started with who we have brought in and our staff in getting us prepared with new things. I think the guys have really responded well and we were really prepared. It took us a while to get into the game but we made some adjustments and it really worked.

Some of the biggest differences from this year's team to the last few years: "I think one, we are maybe a little more athletic and more dynamic. I think really just in confidence and individual confidence. We also have some really quality depth as well."

On the second half offense so far this year: "We are still trying to figure out our substitution patterns and we don't really know who our starting group is. It's a great problem to have while still being successful. I think it's really a challenge to defend against teams who whoever they put in can contribute. Hopefully we are that type of team this year and whoever we put on the field can contribute at any moment and it seems to be that case right now."

OUACHITA BAPTIST AND ROGERS STATE SO FAR

For the Tigers, they have played four games so far and have played to a record of 0-2-2. Ouachita Baptist has scored exactly one goal in all four contests on a total of 28 shots. Their opponents have totaled seven goals on 100 total shots thus far.

The Tigers are led by head coach Chris Lawson who is in his third season with the program. Previously, Lawson served three seasons as the assistant coach for Ouachita Baptist.

Rogers State has battled to a 2-1-1 record through their four games so far this year. The Hillcats have also played two Lone Star Conference opponents in Eastern New Mexico and Midwestern State and have a 1-1 record against those teams.

The Hillcats have scored seven goals to their opponents six and have outshot their opponents 53 to 47 thus far. Leading the way for their offense has been Josh Milla. The sophomore midfielder from McKinney, Texas has posted three goals while starting all four games.

Derek Larkin leads the way for Rogers State and in his 16th season at the helm after helping begin the program in 2007. Larkin has coached the Hillcats to a career record of 146-95-32. Previous to his work with Rogers State, Larkin served as the head coach for Bishop Kelley HS.

SERIES HISTORY

The Patriots and Tigers have squared off five times in their history, and the Patriots hold the advantage at 3-1-1. The two teams have not squared off since September 7, 2007, where the Kenny Jones led Patriots brought home a 2-1 victory in Arkadelphia, Arkansas.

As for the Patriots and the Hillcats, the two teams have faced off just one time. That matchup came last season, where Rogers State narrowly claimed a 1-0 victory in Claremore, Oklahoma.

NEXT UP FOR THE PATRIOTS

This weekend signals the beginning of a four game homestand for UT Tyler, their longest of the season. Thursday's contest against Ouachita Baptist will double as Dean of Students Night. Saturday's contest against Rogers State will also double as Senior Day for the Patriots as they will recognize those seniors within their program.

Next week will see UT Tyler battle it out with a pair of Lone Star Conference opponents in non-conference games. First will be St. Mary's coming to Tyler on September 14th at 5 p.m. On September 17th, the Patriots will welcome UT Permian Basin at 4 p.m. for International Spotlight Day.
