BEST START IN THE DIVISION II ERA

The UT Tyler women's soccer team is off to a 3-0 start for the first time since 2018, making for the best start in the Division II era for the program. The Patriots have outscored their first three opponents of 2022 by a 13-to-2 margin and are outshooting their opposition by an 84-to-14 total. UT Tyler leads the Lone Star Conference with an average of 4.33 goals per game and have seen 15 different players record a point so far in 2022.

WHAT COACH WEBB IS SAYING

On the team's pair of wins last weekend against Rogers State and McPherson College:
"It felt good to score goals. I thought we struggled a little bit with that last year so we worked hard at that over the spring to get our confidence in the final third and I thought the girls played tremendous on the weekend. Both games provided a little different challenge and I thought we stepped up and addressed some of the things that we've been working at."

On the balance of the team last weekend and the different faces stepping up: "On Monday we scored seven different goals from seven different players so I think the beauty of this team is that it's tough to find one person that you have to deal with because we have so many weapons in the attacking third."

On the mindset of the team heading into the final two non-conference games of the year: "I think it's all business and if you look at our fall season, nobody really took us seriously and thought that we were a real threat, and I think that kind of gave us a bit of an edge. Right now we're not looking at what we did last weekend. We have two really good Division II teams that have been tough for us in the last couple of years so it's just straight business for us right now trying to get our heads wrapped around how tough we have to be on the weekend."

PROMOTION NIGHT

Both matches on Thursday and Saturday will feature promotional nights as the Patriots host the second annual Dean of Students night on Thursday featuring free Pokey O's Ice Cream at halftime. Saturday will serve as the annual Families at the Field Tailgate hosted by the UT Tyler Parents Association as well as the annual Military Appreciation Day.

THE MATCH UPS

Thursday evening's opponent Ouachita Baptist will enter the match with a 2-2 record on the year. The Tigers picked up wins over Southwest Baptist and Union, and suffered losses to Northeastern State and Christian Brothers. Ouachita Baptist has scored six goals on the year, and have surrendered seven goals to the opposition. Senior Jamie Fowler leads the team with a pair of goals, while Jaymes Dotson leads the team with 10 shot attempts for the year. The Patriots are 1-4 all-time against Ouachita Baptist with four straight losses after winning the inaugural meeting between the two programs by a 3-2 final back in 2003.

Harding is 0-3-1 against the exact same four opponents as Ouachita Baptist, including three straight shutout losses at the hands of Christian Brothers, Union and Northeastern State. Melissa Ventura scored the lone goal for the Lady Bisons in the season opener. UT Tyler has won both meetings between the two sides by 2-0 final scores in 2021 and 2019.

THE ALVARADO AND GARNER PAIRING

Senior Samaris Alvarado and junior Sydnee Garner have emerged from a crowd of talented Patriots as the go-to offensive threats so far in 2022, leading the squad with seven and five points respectively. Alvarado has scored a goal in all three games this season, and leads UT Tyler with seven points on the year. Garner scored in each of the first two Patriot victories over Texas A&M-Texarkana and Rogers State, and added an assist against McPherson College to log five points. Senior Jordan Colbert is the other Patriot to have scored two goals this season.

COACH WEBB

Head coach Stefani Webb is in her 18th season as head coach of the Patriots and has accumulated a 193-86-20 overall record along the way. Webb led the Patriots to 10 or more wins in every season during the Division III era of the program from 2005-2018, culminating in NCAA Division III National Tournament bids in both 2014 and 2015. Webb holds a career record of 283-132-27 after serving eight seasons as the head coach at the University of Dallas from 1997-2004.

THE FINAL TESTS

This weekends pair of games will be the final non-conference games of the year before UT Tyler begins Lone Star Conference play on Sept. 14th on the road against #1 DBU. UT Tyler is one of eight remaining undefeated squads in the LSC, as #1 DBU and #14 West Texas A&M each lead the conference standings with a 4-0 record on the year.
