LAST TIME OUT
 
RV UT Tyler took on Dallas Christian last Saturday afternoon and put together arguably one of the most complete performances of the Rebecca Alvidrez era. The Patriots scored a program record 115 points while setting program records for made field goals, assists, and steals on their way a dominant 115-25 win.
 
WHAT COACH ALVIDREZ IS SAYING
 
On the big win over Dallas Christian: "It was nice to be able to practice and fix the things that needed fixing. It was nice to have a big offensive output and there were a lot of positives. We had a lot of girls step up and be aggressive.
 
On the upcoming game against Ouachita Baptist: "Continue to do what we did even last week. They are very well coached and it is going to be a high tempo, high volume game and our defense is going to have to be locked in."
 
On the team being home for Thanksgiving: "Every year it varies, this year we do practice. We will probably take the team out to dinner and show them the American tradition of Thanksgiving while allowing the girls to focus on basketball."
 
NATIONAL ATTENTION
 
The first week of the WBCA Top 25 Coaches Poll has been released, and the Patriots are in the Receiving Votes category this week after being ranked #7 in the preseason edition of the poll. Joining UT Tyler in the poll from the LSC is #9 Texas Woman's, RV Lubbock Christian, and RV Angelo State.

  • UT Tyler finished the 2022-2023 year at 27-8 and 18-4 in LSC play.
  • The program finished a perfect 11-0 on their home floor inside the Herrington Patriot Center. On the road the team was 11-5 and they went 5-3 on neutral site courts.
  • The Patriots return nearly every contributor from last season's teams, including three All-LSC players and three NCAA All-South Central Region Tournament team members.
  • So far this year, the Patriots sit at 3-3 with a 1-1 record on the road and a 1-2 record in neutral site contests.

TIGERS NOTES AND TRENDS
 
  • Ouachita Baptist sits at 2-1 on the young season with wins over Champion Christian and Mississippi College. Their lone defeat is to Pittsburg State on Tuesday afternoon.
  • The Tigers as a team are averaging 78.3 points per game on 39.3% shooting. They are holding opponents to 61 points per game on 38.1% shooting. Additionally, they are forcing opponents into 25.3 turnovers per game while racking up 12.3 steals per contest.
  • Leading the way individually is Laney Mears, averaging 18.7 points per game on 38.9% shooting. She also leads the team in steals and total three pointers made.
  • Robert Dallimore is at the helm of the program and is in his fourth season. Previously he served 10 years as an assistant coach at Arkansas-Little Rock. He holds a career record of 35-59.


LAST TIME OUT
 
The Patriots took on Ouachita Baptist last Saturday afternoon and came away with a 54-47 win over the Tigers. As a team, the Patriots shot 50% from beyond the arc in a three point barrage that overwhelmed the Tigers. They held their opponent to just 30% shooting from the floor and 20% from deep while forcing them into 22 turnovers.
 
WHAT COACH ALVIDREZ IS SAYING
 
On the recap against Ouachita Baptist: "It's been nice playing at home. It's tough playing over break, but it was nice to get the win. There's a lot of positives but areas we need to grow in."
 
On the conference kick off this week: "Our plan is to continue to grow us. I think we can be pretty special if things start clicking. We need some better bench production as well. Cameron is very well coached, and Midwestern has a new coach. Winning on the road is always a challenge and you have to be able to prepare and be ready for these two games."
 
On the tough defense so far: "We're starting to shoot it a little better and that will help catch up to the defense. Right now we are relying a little bit on the defense. You can always control your effort and your attitude towards your defense and I think if we can travel our defense there are a lot of positives with that."

  • On defense, the Aggies force 14.7 turnovers per game and average six steals per contest.
  • Individually, Shamica Smith, Katie King, and Korie Allensworth average double figures as they are scoring 15.8, 13.7, and 10.7 points per game, respectively. Smith leads the team in rebounding at 9.8 per game while King leads in steals with 11 total.
  • Leading the program is head coach Jeff Mahoney, who is in his second season. He holds a record of 15-20 over his two seasons thus far after serving as an assistant for three years prior to taking over the head coaching position.
 
MUSTANGS NOTES AND TRENDS
 
  • In the early going, Midwestern State sits at 0-6.
  • As a team, the Mustangs average 62.7 points per game on 31.9% shooting while shooting 20.2% from deep.
  • Defensively, they allow opponents to score 84.2 points per game on 48.3% shooting and 32.5% from beyond the arc.
  • They are forcing opponents into 16.5 turnovers per game while averaging 6.8 steals per game and 1.7 blocks per contest.
  • Individually, the Mustangs are led by three players in double figures in Kertisa Amos, Zarria Carter, and Makayla Coy. They average 17.5, 14.2 and 10.7 points per game, respectively.
