Â
WHAT COACH ALVIDREZ IS SAYING
Â
On being 2-0 last week: "There was a lot of great moments. Everything we've been trying to preach and practice, we took some steps. It was great to see effort, especially on the defensive side from start to finish and I am proud of the team and how they were able to respond. Hopefully they saw the success that we had this past weekend and the formula of effort, toughness, how you approach the game, and how you prepare is extremely important."
Â
On the defense leading to offense: "I think we have a high ceiling. I don't think we've scratched what we're capable of. Finally the offense is starting to get going and obviously that helps when we put together a good defensive performance. There's a lot of good basketball ahead of us if we're willing to continue to work and continue to grow."
Â
On taking care of business at home: "We're just hoping our girls don't get too stressed about finals. Our plan is to prepare, continue to grow, and us as coaches to put them in areas to be successful."
Â
PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Â
Montse Gutierrez was named the Lone Star Conference Defensive Player of the Week after a pair of stat stuffing games last week for the Patriots. Against Cameron, Gutierrez played 34 minutes while snagging five rebounds and five steals while scoring seven points. Against Midwestern State, she ramped it up even more as she scored 11 points and added three rebounds, four assists, three blocks, and three steals.
