Rashun Williams and
Milan Szabo were each named Honorable Mention All-Lone Star Conference honorees on the 2023 Lone Star Conference Men's Basketball All-Conference Awards List.
Williams led the Patriots in scoring on the year with an average of 17.6 points per game while Szabo once again paced the squad in rebounding with an average of 5.8 a contest. Szabo adds the Honorable Mention All-Lone Star Conference accolade to his selection to the 2022 Lone Star Conference All-Academic Team last season.
Senjor Julius Brown of West Texas A&M was named the Lone Star Conference Player of the Year, while Tom Brown and Vinay Patel were each recognized as Co-Coaches of the Year as announced at the annual championship banquet at Main Event in Frisco, Texas on Wednesday night. That banquet precludes the start of the 2023 LSC Men's and Women's Basketball Championships, set to begin tomorrow inside the Comerica Center in Frisco, Texas.
Williams finished the season ranked fourth in the LSC with his 17.8 points per game, appearing in 23 contests throughout the season. The Arlington, Ga. native went for 20 or more points on eight different occasions in 2022-23, and ended the year with nine straight games in which he posted a scoring total of 15 or more points.
He finished the year with a 38.1 percent (129-339) field goal percentage, and ranked fifth in the LSC with an average of 2.3 made three pointers per game.
Williams had his best outing in his first appearance as a Patriot, debuting with a 35-point effort in the first game of the 2022-23 season for UT Tyler against Louisiana Christian back on Nov. 14
th. He scored 20 or more points in eight different Lone Star Conference match-ups throughout the season, and averaged 17.5 points a game against LSC foes.
Szabo was once again a staple of the UT Tyler front court in 2022-23, ranking 12
th in the LSC with an average of 5.8 rebounds a game. Szabo continued to elevate his scoring ability in his third year of basketball at UT Tyler, averaging a career best of 7.4 points per game.
Szabo appeared in 24 games in 2022-23, making 23 starts while averaging 23.5 minutes per contest. The Levice, Slovakia native notched two double-doubles throughout the year and notched eight games in which he reached double-digit scoring figures.
He ranks sixth all-time in the UT Tyler men's basketball record books with 378 rebounds for his career and in a tie for third place all-time with 50 blocked shots in his career.
UT Tyler finished the season 9-17 overall and 5-17 in Lone Star Conference play. The Patriots cracked the NABC Division II Men's Basketball National Top 25 for the first time in program history at no. 22 back on Dec. 6
th after beginning the season with a 5-0 record.
