THE MUSIC KEEPS PLAYING

UT Tyler came away with one of the biggest wins in program history on Saturday night, taking down no. 1 seeded Angelo State on their home floor in the NCAA Round of 32 by a score of 71-61.

It was all Rambelles in the first quarter, as they shot the lights out from the floor, but the Patriots stayed steady on defense and climbed themselves right back into it by halftime. A 13-0 run to start the second half put the Patriots at full throttle on offense, and they outscored Angelo State 40-27 in the second half to pull away and book their spot in the Sweet 16.

HOW LUBBOCK CHRISTIAN FOUND THEIR WAY

The Lady Chaps showed up to the NCAA South Central Region Tournament as the no. 7 seed, and faced Texas Woman's for the second time in less than a week in the opening round. In that opening round contest, the Lady Chaps and Pioneers battled in a slugfest all game long, but a 4:38 scoreless stretch from Texas Woman's in the fourth quarter spelled the end of the line.

On Saturday, Lubbock Christian faced off against RMAC foe Black Hills State, and they ran out on a 10-2 run to open up the game. That lead continued to build throughout the game, and they headed to the fourth quarter up 13 points. That lead would extend out to 16 by the time the game was done, and Lubbock Christian found themselves in the Sweet 16.

AN UNLIKELY SHOWDOWN

Monday's matchup in the NCAA South Central Regional Championship will be one of a kind, as it is the only regional game that will not see the number one seed from their respective region in that game. Monday's game will also feature the two lowest seeds remaining, as no seed lower than no. 3 in their respective region remains.

Of the other seven regions, six feature matchups between the no. 1 and no. 3 seed, and the other region features the no. 1 against the no. 2 seed. The Patriots took down the no. 4 seed Colorado School of Mines and no. 1 seeded Angelo State, while Lubbock Christian took down no. 2 seed Texas Woman's and no. 6 seed Black Hills State.

THE SCOUTING REPORT

Lubbock Christian will roll into their sixth NCAA South Central Region Tournament championship game in program history at a record of 24-10 overall. The Lady Chaps finished the regular season with an LSC record of 16-6, and have squared off with the Patriots just one time this season.

In that one matchup, it was a magical night for UT Tyler back on January 19th, as they found themselves down 16 points with just 3:08 remaining in the third quarter before launching a furious comeback that saw them erase that deficit and then close out the game on a 20-0 run to come up with a 69-57 win.

The Lady Chaps come into the contest ranking 49th in Division II in scoring margin, 48th in scoring defense, 20th in three point percentage defense, 40th in field goal percentage, and 41st in field goal percentage defense.

Leading the way for Lubbock Christian on the floor is Grace Foster. Foster was recently named the D2CCA South Central Region's Most Outstanding Player and was also the Lone Star Conference Player of the Year. Foster averages 16.5 points per game on 46.6% shooting, leads the team in rebounding, and is third on the team in both assists and steals.

Steve Gomez is at the helm for the Lady Chaps and is in the midst of his 20th season. He has led the program to a trio of National Titles, and just recorded his 500th career win with the victory over Black Hills State on Saturday night.

DARE TO DREAM?

Monday night's winner will book their flights to St. Joseph, Missouri, to battle it out the NCAA Division II Elite Eight. That matchup will take place on March 21 at a time to be determined.
